Now that we're just out of the Holiday season, I find this recording I had never heard before now. Go figure:

If my memory serves me correct that was recorded in Nashville as part of some stuff she did for Gusto Records.

It was originally released on album entitled CHRISTMAS SOUL SPECIAL. Other artists included Sam Moore, Shirley Alston, Martha Reeves, and Wilson Pickett. Mary also performed a rendition of SILENT NIGHT.

I've seen that LP/CD many times over the years, and not being a fan of holiday music ignored it....

This is a great version of JBR....holiday songs tend to constantly be recycled and become warhorses no matter who sings them...Mary Wells phrasing and a great instrumental track make this a "thumbs up!!!" for me...the very few I ALWAYS enjoy: Supremes "Born of Mary" Heart [[Ann & Nancy Wilson) Blue Christmas and Connie Francis' Ave Maria

Leave this song to the original artist. Mary’s version is terrible.
