This sounds like a joke, but I seriously want to have fun with this one. Listening to Mary singing "Floy Joy" recently made me think of songs that referred to a playa/ player. It could be about a male or female player. How many can you come up with?
I'll get things started with First Choice and "The Player"!

The C.O.D's out of Chicago first hit with "Michael [[The Lover)" in 1965...it was also covered by Geno Washington [[the UK guy posing as Gino).
Also an obscure tune by the Trainrobbers called "Tricky Dick"...I think this one would qualify.

Great information Mark. I didn't know about the other versions until now. My old math teacher and basketball coach , Michael Jones would sometimes DJ our Junior High hops and he'd play "Michael the Lover" at the end of the night as it was his favorite song. LOL! RIP Coach Jones.

Ok, The Temptations chime in with an underated cut about a female player and to this day its a unique record in their catalog because these guys didn't really sing about femme fatales of this caliber......in short they were saying ...just say no.....the record taken from the Smiling Faces Album " I'm the Exception To The Rule"........Otis, Dennis & Eddie telling the girl you aint gonna play on me.....
And who of you could forget the notorious Chuckii Booker and his hit "Games"..........an upbeat companion pice to the Temptations dirge about those freaky females.....

Taildragger - Howling Wolf
I'm a tail dragger
I wipe out my track
When I get what I want
I don't come sneakin' back
The mighty wolf
Make it a midnight creep

And they can't find him
Stealin' chicks
Everywhere he go
Then draggin' his tail

I often wondered whether or not The storyteller from Marvin Gaye's "Where Ever I Lay My Hat" was supposed to be the deceased father to the storytellers on "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" especially since they reference the former track in the chorus.
