OK, I thought i'd start a poll. Pick all your favorite R&B hits from the year 1980. The songs were chosen at random, but are all my favorites.

Oh of course "More Bounce to The Ounce"! That WAS the sound of 1980. Add Jermaine Jackson's " Let's Get Serious" and we have the start of a serious listing ! LOL!

Burn Rubber charted at the turn of the year. It charted in both 1980 and 1981.

The poll is supposed to be fun, not scientific.

The songs in the list represent the year 1980 in the U.S. more than you realize. It is not intended to be just about funk music, either.

Interesting bit about The Isley Brothers' "Don't Say Goodnight". Chris Jasper, who pretty much produced their albums, said that Ronald did the vocal in one take. He did it so well that he didn't even bother to mix the song. Everything was perfect as-is! What you hear on the released recording is the raw console mix.
