Responding to the comment, "Why wait until now?" Well, to be fair, how many people were coming out as gender fluid 50 years ago, let alone 10 years ago? Very little, because we did not have the same understanding and level of acceptance that we have now. Also, I think his story will serve as an inspiration to all people, to say that it's never too late to live as your authentic self. It's too bad that some of the people in this thread seem unable to understand that.
