Before the Supremes, before the Shirelles, before the Chantels, there were the Bobbettes. In 1957 they scored the first Top Ten [[Billboard #6) hit by a female vocal group in the rock era, and topped the R&B chart as well. The girls [[literally) were between 11 and 13 when "Mr. Lee" became a hit.

This excellent collection covers [[chronologically) the years 1957 to 1962. With songs from a number of different labels. The six page fold-open cover is crammed with information and all songs are annotated with writer, label etc.

The good folks that put this collection together really cared about properly documenting the music of the Bobbettes and their place in musical history. It's by far the best collection of the Bobbettes that I am aware of. And I'm very pleased with the sound quality.

This enjoyable collection is rich with the innocence of early rock and roll. Their version of "Teach Me Tonight" is utterly charming. Both versions [[the original version and the hit version) of "Mr. Lee" are included. The set concludes with Johnny Thunder's 1962 smash "Loop De Loop" on which the Bobbettes sang [[uncredited) background.
