Hello all ..

After a long break due to serious illness this coming Sunday 6th March marks the return of legendary U.K. Soul/Jazz D.J. ROBBIE VINCENT to the airwaves.

He will be resuming his Sunday morning show on London based Jazz-FM .. 10AM to 1PM GMT .. that is 5AM to 8AM in New York.

For those unfamiliar with the man, back in the mid/late '70s he had a show on BBC Radio London where he was given freedom of choice in what he played, and his show was one of the few places on the British airwaves where the latest "Soul" and "Jazz-Fusion" tracks could be heard. In the '80s he moved to the national station BBC Radio One where he carried on the good work.

Personally I'd credit him with introducing me to artists such as ROY AYERS, DONALD BYRD, JEAN CARN, BRENDA RUSSELL, CHARLES EARLAND, IDRIS MUHUMMED and a whole host of others.

The station broadcasts on Digital frequencies throughout the U.K. and is also available on the net ...

Welcome back Robbie.

WOW!!

Thank you tamla617.

I've listened to the first of these and the sound quality is really good .. funnily there were a couple of tracks on there that I don't recall at all, and I used to make a point of catching his Sunday night Radio One shows.

Indeed, I used to tape the shows too .. then listen to them repeatedly over the next few weeks before I taped over them again .. thus saving money for buying the vinyl!!

Just listening to the clip almost transported me back to the '80s, and didn't that news reader in the middle of it sound very clipped and stilted .. almost like a WW2 newsreel reporter. Even BBC news reporters don't sound like that nowadays .. know what I mean .. innit!! :)

I think I still have some tapes of his shows, but the tapes are all in "the vaults" [[ my code for boxes in cupboards :) ). I might have a tape still left of one of his BBC Radio London shows from 1980/1, not sure.

knew you'd like that lot!i remember having a 1984 robbie tape on in the car in 1988,the news came on full of the miners strike. my passenger said when did this happen? its not in the paper.i didnt tell him it was a 4 year old tape!he was going on about the bloody miners all day and a plane crash that happened ,everybody thought he was cracking up!i told him on the way home.i couldnt stop laughing.

i'm after a 1985 show it has a track on i've never heard again since.so if you have any i'd like to have them, actually any at all will do,cheers.at some point i'll delve into my "vaults" and see what i have thats not been taped over, just like you did.
i really wish i hadnt been so tight and bought a load of tapes.i'd have all the shows except for 6 months in 85/86 when i was out the country and the odd weekend away.
