i was curious as to what the thoughts were as to what the supremes best songs were, not the biggest selling per say. i used to think Stop was the ultimate Supremes single but certainly Baby Love, and You Cant hurry Love could also be considered classics.
what do you think are the best of all the singles??
heres mine. not exactly in order but top ten
1.Love child. classic song but classic Ross vocal.
2.Someday We'll Be Together. same as above.love the feel of it.
3.Up The Ladder To the Roof. wow this still sounds fresh to me. jean soars on this.
4.My World Is Empty. again ,Dianas vocal is perfection. love the Motown remixed version. you can hear how good Diana is vocally.
5. You Keep Me Hangin On. love the Motown Story version.love how Flo and Mary are up there with Diana on this.just rocks it out of the park.
6.Stoned Love. just a Motown classic all the way around
7.Im Gonna Make You Love Me. for a cover, they nailed it.this has grown on me,now I love it.
8.Reflections. think this is the coolest of their songs
9./10 Stop in The Name Of Love/ you Cant Hurry Love, both classics

bubbling under ..Love Is AN Itching in My Heart.still my fav
Im Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking, tremendous return to form.

Two of my favorite songs of all time are Supremes songs.
Up The Ladder To The Roof
and
Someday We'll Be Together.

Yes, I know now that technically Someday is Diana, but when it came out, I loved it as a Supremes song, and I still have that feeling.

I never tire of those two songs

Well my fav sup song is You Can’t Hurry Love but I prefer the #1 cd version w the backgrounds elevated. The mono version isn’t my fav

But other top singles are Ladder, Someday, Back in Arms, I’m gonna make

I didn’t pick Stoned Love or Let YourselfGo since the single edits of those songs is inferior. Although the songs themselves in full form are fantastic

sup_fan is right. Stoned Love single was inferior to the album track.
So I chose Up the Ladder.
And I realize Love Child is technically Diana & the Andantes but, for me
[[and the world), it is Diana Ross & the Supremes.

Way out ahead YCHL - whenever I feel down I play this and it immediately cheers me up - it's such a joyful, infectious and uplifting record.

Nor surprising that in the Streaming Age it's their biggest song.

Love the bass on My World - never understood why this didn't go all the way to #1.

Must be one of the few people who prefer Nathan to Stoned Love.

Not a fav of many but I have a soft spot for The Composer - love the segment where it goes heh, heh, heh

I tend to pass on a lot of the biggest singles because they are so overplayed everywhere. I guess I'd have to make my list of "best" based on how often I play the songs specifically vs if they come on during a listen of the whole album or a playlist. So the ones I play the most in no particular order [[but probably chronologically):

Buttered Popcorn
A Breath Taking Guy
Where Did Our Love Go
Nothing But Heartaches
My World Is Empty
You Can't Hurry Love
You Keep Me Hanging On
Love Is Here and Now You're Gone
Forever Came Today
Someday We'll Be Together
Automatically Sunshine
Bad Weather

The Supremes best work for me whether Diana and the Andantes or Mary, Flo, and Cindy were.

I Hear A Symphony - [[when it was released it was like WOW !! that's different)
Someday We'll Be Together [[ The Breakup up the No # 1 female group and the last # 1 song of 1969)

hmmmm - this is such a fun yet complex question

most important: Where Did Our Love Go. this launched the girls and established the Sup sound. it's a deceptively simple song and others to come might be more musical or bigger sellers or whatever. but without WDOLG i don't know that any of the rest would have followed

personal fav: You Can't Hurry Love

most innovative: think i'd have to go with Reflections

most dramatic: Stoned Love. the lyrics are so powerful and if you read them as text it's such an amazing message. the massive intro and then the excellent groove. the harmonies and strings. and then it all builds up to the end of the bridge where they sing On and On and On and On and..

most calculated: Love Child. none of the girls were love children and didn't have a LC. the group was not known for political statements and they really didn't leverage the message of this song post release to evolve their image. it's just a perfect pop song that was crafted solely as a hit for the group

most underrated #1: probably Where again.

least known #1: will probably cause some dissenting opinions but i'd say Love Is Here is probably the least familiar #1 to the general public.

underrate single: too many to list. much of the 70s catalog, during the classic era probably My World [[gorgeous follow up to Symphony)

best dance song: Let yourself go
