It's a shame but many times someone's iconic role does stagnate you. He's a legend because of Shaft but he could've been bigger had he gotten more opportunities.

Roundtree used to frequently golf at Hanson Dam golf course...a municipal city course, not a fancy private club... Of course, even Smokey plays with his pals at the local municipal courses like Knollwood in Granada Hills and Los Robles in Thousand Oaks, although he also belongs to the more exclusive Mountaingate Counry Club and trust me...you don't want to get stuck playing behind Smokey and his golf buddies...They play so slow he warns them when he's coming so they leave a couple of times behind him open, so as not to piss off everyone behind them because they play so slow... The can singlehandedly back up the entire course...
