Announced today, apparently a newly compiled version of the canceled 1972 album, “You’re The Man,” that includes some new mixes and extended versions of songs, will be released digitally and on vinyl on March 29, 2019.

Anyone know why Universal chose to skip having a CD release on this?

I guess it's because CD sales are so low now, especially in the US, and maybe they thought it was a more specialist release which would only appeal to Marvin's true fans.

I haven't checked yet against titles included in the previous deluxe CD reissues, but I'd be interested to see what is actually new here, apart from the remixes [[which I'm not too fussed about) and the extended versions mentioned.

He intended YTM to be another full-length socially conscious album but as you can see, he never fully completed it after YTM tanked on the pop chart since the song was too black for radio programming to pop audiences and Motown didn't wanna risk having an artist being seen as one of "Nixon's enemies" like what happened with John Lennon so I think the failure of YTM had more to do with Motown scared of a backlash than Marvin though Marvin admitted he faced a lot of pressure to follow up "What's Going On".

The reason for the album's release has less to do with CD's low sales than it does that these songs will be released to vinyl for the first time. That said, I dig the cover of the album.

CD sales still have to be higher than vinyl though right?

They are. Vinyl will never catch up to CD sales no matter its spikes.

Yeah, I'm going to have to get this one, if just to have the previously released stuff in one set and on vinyl.

Pre-ordered on viny! I’m really glad they’re doing this. I always wished they would’ve released those previously unreleased albums on vinyl when they came out, like There’s A Place For Us or Marvn’s Live At The Copa or even Mary Wells’ Second Time Around among others. Looks like a cool release.

Uh... I'm playing the Salaam Remi remix and...

Why did Salaam put MG's voice out of step with the music?!?!?

Really, Universal? Harry Weinger? Jesus. I wish these guys were still posting here so I can cuss at Harry lol

I DO love his alternate vocals in this and the sax in it but uh yeah lol

I'll take the version that was on the 20th Century set:

Just listened to Salaam Remi's take on "My Last Chance". Honestly I have no problem with it,he did what he could with the options Harry gave him. Most than likely he couldn't play around much or make any big alterations. As with the " Here,My Dear" reissue,Harry only allowed them to work with what was on the multi track tapes to maintain the authenticity of the project. Salaam just moved the track out of the way to make the vocal the focal point and delayed it a bit. It does sound a little weird because the commercial version is familiar to us, but I'm glad he agreed to work with it all in tribute to the greatest male soul singer.

I went to a website to hear the track and an unhappy fan was very aggressive and condescending. Gonna take some getting used to,but once we know it it'll be okay. Can't wait to hear what everyone else thinks. Just wanted to share my evaluation with the family folks.

I am completely underwhelmed by this release... Why the SaLaAM mixes, and not just the best original versions of each song, [[such as My Last Chance from the Millennium Collection). If UMC wanted to add some remixes, go ahead include as a bonus disc... And for completeness add the other versions, for example - You're The Man [[Part 1), The World Is Rated X, My Last Chance & I Want to Come Home for Christmas from The Collection Boxset.... and others etc.

For me inclusion of the Christmas songs in the main running order is just wrong.... Was there ever a planned track listing for the original catalogue number assigned release?

The best thing about the release is the artwork....

You can download My Last Chance - SalaAM ReMi remix now on iTunes. It's OK, as I said would have preferred this to be a bonus rather than the main instance...

I have just listened to the remix and have come to the conclusion that this song deserved better. Yes, raise the level of Marvin's voice and include the sax, but taking the vocals out of the musical alignment ruins it for me.

Reminds me of that awful remix of Going To A Go-Go on the Motown Box set in respect of the vocal/music alignment and that's not a good thing sadly.

Yeah. Though his Symphony remix was much better.

I think that’s generally true but Billboard’s number one album in January had CD sales of 1250 one week and 750 the next week

Dismal!

I thought Carleen Anderson's "Piece of Clay" was an original song. It's a remake!
