Listening to some Skyy right now [["When You Touch Me"), pretty darn good stuff. Are they still around?

I'm always a little bummed when these great groups just disappear into the wild blue yonder. The 80's/early 90's had some great ones who are hard to find these days, like Skyy, Surface, Midnight Star [[one of my favorites!), Atlantic Starr, etc., just a great sound.

Perhaps they're all still out there and I'm just not paying close enough attention. This kind of music never should've disappeared.

The Dunning Sisters are still performing as 'The Ladies Of Skyy'. Anibal Sierra still comes out to see them when they perform in the N.Y./N.J. area. I believe that Solomon & Randy are in the Education field, Tommy McConnell [[drummer) was operating a recording studio & I believe that fairly recently, Randy came out with a CD.
.
I'll get in touch with Denise & see if what info I can add to this.

Welcome!

It's great to see performers like Randy still drawing audiences. By way of example, we had Jeff Perry here in London recently, with Leroy Hutson. Leroy's concert was rated as extraordinary, and it has so enthused him it has brought him back into live performances. There is no shortage of support for soul artists in the UK, the first major problem is the lack of suitable venues, and I would have to add the weak promotion of appearances. It is not at all unusual for a really good act to appear with minimaladvanced promotion and therefore the financials aren't as good as they could be.

Leroy is one of the most unsung artists around.

His talent is immense & in a fair world, he would be a household name.

Here's the interview with Leroy by David Nathan. Also some great video clips. http://soulmusic.com/lehu20ch.html

The London concert was the first performance anywhere by Leroy since 1992! David conducted the first interview that Leroy had ever given way back in 1975, for Blues and Soul Magazine. I used to buy records from David even before then in the London shop he ran with the founder of Blues and Soul, John Abbey. David and John along with Dave Godin did more to champion and establish soul music in the UK than anyone or any company. David continues to further the cause of Afro American music to this very day.
