The latest blog from Adam White looks at some of the 1958 sides that BG made, including Briant Holland.

Had forgotten about the "Magic Song". This was the first tune Miss Ray had helped Berry Gordy arrange after they met. As far as "Nature Boy" is concerned,I've read many books where the song is erroneously credited to Brian Holland due to authors not knowing the back story. Interesting.

Very informative article. I never heard of Magic Song either, but I am familiar with the Gaylords. When I was a little boy, they have a top five hit with "From the Wine Came The Grape". The time was 1953, so I doubt anyone else remembers it.

I'm old enough to have remembered it. Luckily, they didn't play this in Winnipeg [[although, they did play a lot more than enough "Corny Pop". When visiting Chicago, in those days, I listened to Al Benson's show on WGES, which just played Blues, R&B and Gospel. But, now that I've heard 3/4 of the song, it rings a bell. I probably heard it on some stray radio [[of which I had no control).
