And Mary on lead. I think Deke Richards produced this
Motown would’ve gotten sued by Sly Stone if they released it!

Isn’t it curious that this has not been released on any compilation?

And why would sly sue? Chris Clark did record it back in 67.
It sounds so much like Dance to the Music!

This is an excellent song. I love Chris Clark's version and this also sounds great, even though the sound quality is a bit iffy.
I had never though about the similarity to "Dance To The Music" before!!! But now you mention it luke I can definitely hear it. Maybe not quite sueable though.

The verse is totally derivative of Everyday People - not Dance To The Music - and I agree with Luke that Sly might have a case.

You can really hear Jean in the background.

Motown was really trying hard to Sly Stone-ize certain stars, weren't they?

Sly wouldn't have a case at all. The song was written in 1967 well before Sly's hits came out.

Sounds more like "Everyday People" to me than "Dance to the Music". The song is okay. Mary sounds great. Needs a proper mix and release to really give an opinion.

Looks like I'm getting my Sky & The Family Stone songs mixed up again. I'm always doing that...

Some songs can be changed, especially music wise. It might have had a different sound in '67 compared to when the Supremes recorded it, which was when Jean joined them and replaced Diana.

Chris recorded it in Jan 1969 not 1967.
