Wow Mikey ..

What a great track .. looks like the C.D. it came out on was released at the end of 2009 .. but it sounds like it could have been recorded anytime in the last 30 years.

Mind you, I can't help think he must have fallen on hard times as he can no longer afford to travel by Taxi! :)

This the track that he did for Stax back in 1972 when he was in the SOUL CHILDREN that introduced me to the sound of his voice ..

THE SOUL CHILDREN "Hearsay" :-

Mind you, he was known as JOHN COLBERT back then, I'm not sure why he changed his name to J. BLACKFOOT when he went solo ..

Maybe there's something in the water, maybe it falls out of trees or it's in the soil that crops grow out of. Maybe it's along those back roads, in the air in the juke joints and meeting halls or even in the factories and veneer yards. I've never been
completely sure but there is something that almost only occurs in the southern United States that produces the kind of singing voices that J. Blackfoot, among others has that reeks pure soul...His previous group wasn't called The Soul Children
for nothing...

b. John Colbert, 1947, Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.A.

'J. Blackfoot' is a nickname Blackfoot picked up during his early years due to his habit of walking barefoot on the tarred sidewalks of Memphis during the hot summers.

Very true. The blacktop used here is mixed with BLACK crude oil, which gets into your clothing, underneath your car, etc.

we don't have that problem in the UK. We specialise in sprinkling deep potholes everywhere ....... the biggest earner for my garage is now suspension repair, and tyre replacement, and I'm only 25 miles outside of the centre of London. Worse than Boston MA roads! Unlike Blackfoot's example, we don't have any artists yet who have chosen to call themselves Pothole!

Well Mikew-uk .. What about Speed Bumps .. they seem to be designed to drum up business for garages too!! I'm about ten miles out of the centre of London and the roads are infested with the d*mn things!!

Maybe there's an act out there calling themselves SPEED BUMP WILLIE & THE POTHOLES :)

Interesting reason why JOHN COLBERT changed his stage name though!! thanks for the soulwalking link.
