Jimi, I know you are unaware of the most recent change, but this is not suppose to be posted here. Ralph and Lowell have been kind enough to create a special sub-forum for the Supremes and Diana Ross related threads. Look for it at the very top of the Motown Forum Menu page. Thanks. Marv

06-13-2018, 06:27 PM
thanks Marv, i saw that, but this not not a Ross & Supremes thing, which is how i read that new development, this is a brand new , non Supremes thing...I think that's how it's supposed to be, no?..just update news on a Motown artist..

I think the clue is Diana Ross.

The forum is a generic term for the group and solo related Supremes.
Simple.

Yes, this belongs on the new forum. I'll move it.

Doesnít make sense at all. that is like regulating Michael Jackson news to an old ass J5 forum.

snakepit
06-13-2018, 07:01 PM
It would be a MJ thread as a stand alone..
In a J5 related forum...
Because, you know MJ was once a member, and a MJ thread might, just might, appeal to J5 members.
Is is that hard?

Now, tell me if I have this wrong!

I believe the DRATS section is dedicated to anything and everything Supreme-related... be it Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, The Original Supremes, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The 70s Supremes or anything else of that nature. While 'DRATS' is often used as a specific term relating to the era of 'Diana Ross & The Supremes' from 1967 to 1969, I believe in this context it pertains to ANYTHING related to Diana Ross and or The Supremes, regardless. :D

I think you are correct. I recommend they change the ampersand [[&) to a comma [[,) and drop the use of [DRATS] in the title as that is common shorthand for the group between 67-70. That would clarify that the subforum is for ALL things Supremes and Diana Ross solo and anything related to anyone who was ever a Supreme, before, during, and after the group.

khansperac
06-13-2018, 07:11 PM
Itís not 1970 anymore it is 2018. Michael [[RIP) or Diana or Mary have had separate solo careers for 40 years. Their Solo careers are totally separate and should not be tied to what they did 40 or 50 years ago.

snakepit
06-13-2018, 07:16 PM
They wouldn't be...it would be a post in a seperate thread about their solo years or current....but in a FORUM that is related to that group or artists.

Jimi LaLumia
06-13-2018, 07:34 PM
then you should move the Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong threads as well that are still lingering on the main board cos it's time to move on..

marybrewster
06-13-2018, 07:40 PM
I just asked that question. When I hear "DRATS" I think 1967-1970; Diana, Mary, and Cindy.

I'm assuming DRATS in this case means ANYTHING Supreme or Supremes related.

I still don't get it. If these so called people hate reading about Diana Ross so much then why do they open up the thread to begin with? If there is a thread that don't interest me. I just avoid it. Then we have a person who claims he hates Diana Ross but will go into every thread about her to agitate her fans and then her fans get upset and lashes back and they get banned and he plays all innocent. SMDH...Then has the nerve to say that's why the industry heads don't visit anymore and blames the Ross fans..LOL

Very well said vgalindo. I have little time for Mary Wilson so i tend to steer clear of the threads relating to her. I could quite easily have posted some uncomplimentary remarks about the "it's time to move on" remix thread but why bother? If people get pleasure out of listening to that particular song then good luck to them. I will leave them to it rather than try and bait the Mary fans on here. I just wish this particular individual would try to be more respectful. Wishing thinking i suspect, but we can live in hope.

So true. I do the same. I could have also said negative comments on the " time to move on" thread but chose not to. I didn't want to upset the Mary Wilson fans. The question is why Can't he do the same?

I wish as well that the moderator would use greater discretion and think twice about who he praises and who he bans; that would lead me to support the forum financially. While sexual assault, racist comments about infants and misogynist posts about affairs of 50+ years ago are allowed I simply can't do so.

How funny! When I saw the name of the new sub-thread, I knew, I just knew, that one or more posters would take issue with what should and should not be posted here. I actually suggested modifying the thread's name at the very first, so it wouldn't appear to some posters to be solely pertaining to 1967-1969, knowing that heading would in all likelihood stir up another tempest in a teapot. We're so predictable in here. Unlike some of us, however, I'm amused rather than enraged. It's actually very entertaining.

TheMotownManiac
06-24-2018, 07:11 PM
The whole idea seems like a tempest in a tea pot to me: the drudgery of having to wade thru all these DR&TS threads scaring folks away from the forum??? Protecting innocents from the perils of Diana VS Mary by a sub-category and thereby making them less likely to click onto an offensive thread? Makes no sense to me at all, but I’m old and might be losing it. I’ve disvussed it with others who have the exact same conclusion but they are old [[mostly) and probably losing it as well. If it makes others happy, I’m all for it. ANYTHING for the greater good - like the new voting laws in Ohio and red states that will secure Red rule in perpetuity. Everyone happy with THAT? If not, now that you got your victory here - get the lead out, folks!

Really? I loved that album from the day it hit the streets back in Summer 1971. With the exception of HDH and Michael Masser, you can't beat the magic of Diana Ross and Ashford & Simpson. I'm glad you've come to appreciate "Surrender" now. It should have been released as Diana's 2nd solo LP to cash in on the tremendous success of her first Ashford & Simpson solo album. It would have sold much better than the mere #56 on the charts.

It was , and remains a great album. I agree it should have replaced the disjointed "everything is everything" as her 2nd solo album. Here in the UK it was retitled "i'm still waiting" and of course included that UK no.1 single, and went top 10 as did the singles Surrender and Remember Me. Great album.

Bluebrock, I've never understood why you guys in the U.K. didn't get the exact same Motown releases that Motown gave us here in the U.S. I wish I understood Motown's line of thinking regarding that.

I actually like Diana's "Everything Is Everything" album, especially "I'm Still Waiting". I just think it would have been more appropriate as her 3rd album release rather than her 2nd. It makes you wonder how confused, hurt, and unappreciated Ashford & Simpson must have felt to have Motown hand the reigns over to Deke Richards, especially so soon after they had just given Diana and Motown such a massive summertime hit with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". It made no sense whatsoever. Ass-backwards as it was, it kinda reminds ya of the old adage, "No good deed goes unpunished"!

Hey Gary, I believe Surrender was released in the UK as I'm Still Waiting because of the success of the single "I'm Still Waiting", a #1 in Britain as Bluebrock says. After the song hit big it was added to Surrender and the album retitled after the hit single... all to increase UK sales I would assume.

When I first listened to it, also in Summer '71, I liked the songs [[very much) but thought the production a bit overwrought on almost all the tracks. I preferred the more subtle production on the debut album. I recently listened to the expanded Surrender and I think it is definitely her most "soulful" album. I may even prefer it to the debut.
[[But I think Diana Ross was a stunning debut).
Don't get me started on Everything Is Everything! I think it shouldn't have been released. Surrender should have been released as follow-up to the debut, and much sooner than summer '71. It probably would have performed better on the charts and sales wise, benefitting from the momentum of ANMHE. Some songs on EIE [[I'm Still Waiting, My Place, I Love You [[Call Me), Baby It's Love) could be placed on an EP mini-album [[do they still make those? did they still make those in 1970?)
You're right - HDH, A&S, Masser - the best producers for the Ross magic ever!

Honestly had Motown not rush-released EIE, Diana would've had a very classic solo selection in her early years.

I mean having DR '70, Surrender and Touch Me in the Morning [[and Lady Sings... if you wanna count it), that's a great start to a solo career!

Berry ordered Diana back into the studio to record a new album when "reach out and touch" was not the mega hit it was hoped it would be. She began recording "everything is everything" just as ANMHE was released as a single. When this hit no.1 Berry had Ashford and Simpson back in the studio with Diana to record what would turn out to be the "Remember Me" album.

Oh, okay. Now it makes a little more sense. It wasn't such a slap in the face to A&S after all. If Berry had waited just a few weeks until "Ain't No Mountain" hit it big, "Surrender" would have been next. Anyway, thanks for setting the record straight, Bluebrock. Much appreciated.

With all the current interest at the moment i really think motown should consider re-releasing Diana Extended: THE REMIXES.
My own personal remix fave has to be "Lovin'.Livin' & Givin Definitive Mix from the Almighty Presents collection. Could have been a hit me thinks.

Although I love many of the remixes, I prefer when disco is re-edited rather than remixed, such as the Club Motown album by John Morales and the re-edits by Dimitri From Paris. His re-edit of The Boss is just sensational! Couple of months ago, I went out dancing in Amsterdam [[which doesn't happened that often anymore) and the DJ played the Dimitri mix of The Boss and the crowd [[mostly in their twenties) went wild. I suggested to Dimitri From Paris once [[via Twitter, I don't know him personally!) to re-edit the entire The Boss album, and he said he loved the idea but that getting the clearances for such projects proves to be very difficult. His "remix" album of Chic and Sister Sledge is coming out next week.

Sorry, i meant to say the "surrender" album, or in the case of the UK the "i'm still waiting"album.!

This sounds really good.....Vey fresh. Diana's vocals brought to the the fore sound feisty and strong, much as they did on the diana album. A mix of the entire album would be something very special Quality music will always endure. A new generation of fans for Diana. The legacy continues.

LORDT!!! Makes sense then why there were TWO solo albums in 1970. o_O

What's so surprising about that? Back in the '60s, releasing two albums [[or more) per year on a Motown artist was the norm, unlike today when an artist releases only one album every few years. My only point was that Motown should have released A&S' "Surrender" 2nd [[to cash in on A&S' "Ain't No Mountain"), followed by "Everything Is..." 3rd, in that order. Bluebrock explained Motown's line of thinking at the time, which makes sense -- at least to me. Determined to get a hit, if Berry had just been a little more patient, album 2 and 3 would have probably been released in the above order.

It's surprising to me because there shouldn't have been a second album. That filler album stuff Motown and other labels were doing. No wonder many artists released 500 albums back in the '60s and '70s... -_-

Well, midnightman, to each his own. I actually liked the "Everything" album and, especially, the "Surrender" album. As I said, my only complaint was the order of their release. In fact, unlike other record companies whose albums were riddled with filler and a couple of hits, Motown's albums were famous for high quality material. Maybe not every track worthy of 45 release, but certainly enjoyable -- highly enjoyable for me. That's why I love Motown. They gave us a lot of top-notch bang for our buck.

I always like seeing fellow-appreciators of EIE - and odd one, to be sure, but gorgeous singing [[as always) and great Deke arrangements. 'The little record that could' indeed!

DGMW... I love "I'm Still Waiting" from EIE. And the Marvin composition "Baby It's Love" is probably in the top 20 of favorite DR songs ever. It's not a bad album at all but compared to "Surrender", it's pretty inferior. JMHO!

Though I do admire the fact that album gave us that great album cover. So there's that! :)

Thanks, Tom. Didn't mean to snub you. I somehow missed this before.
