Motown "Mastered for iTunes"

A year or two ago, numerous Motown artists' LPs such as "The Supremes Sing Country, Western and Pop," "The Supremes: We Remember Sam Cooke," and many others were available for download on iTunes with the logo "MASTERED FOR ITUNES."

I now notice that designation no longer appears [[including on LPs that once had it). Does anyone know what up with this?

I hope it means that they are going to introduce lossless files finally. Quboz is expected to finally open up shop here in the U.S. this year, and 7-digital has been selling lossless/hi-rez for years. HD Tracks has cornered the market on hi-rez. So, we'll see...

I just checked the iTunes Store and the "mastered for iTunes" logo is still up and running on most of their Motown LPs [[including the ones that longtimefan mentioned).

Maybe it was a temporary glitch that kept the logo from showing up.

Totally weird. I just looked them up again right now and they definitely do not state “Mastered for iTunes.”

Are the iTunes albums any different/better than the same albums downloaded from Amazon in mp3 format?

Totally Weird Indeed. I'm looking at Meet The Supremes right now and the 'mastered for iTunes' stamp is there. Are you using the latest version of iTunes [[you can check by going to the 'help' tab and clicking 'check for updates')?

Are the iTunes albums any different/better than the same albums downloaded from Amazon in mp3 format?

To my ears, they have more treble. neither mp3s or aac files sound best. What sounds best is ALAC, FLAC, and WAV.
