As most MF members know, in the early 1960's there was a group called the Great Gospel Stars. The group consisted of Mae Gooch who organized the group and added 5 additional members to the group. I believe two of the additional members were her sisters. The group released one album The Great Gospel Stars, one Tamla 45 #54037 and one Divinity 45 #99006.
Little information is known about the group, but I was curious has anyone ever seen a picture of the group? Perhaps one does not exist, quite possible.

Thanks.

There is a picture of questionable quality of Mae Gooch here & the names of the group members in 1959.

The Old Grey Wolf has graciously reproduced the album at his website. The members on the Great Gospel Stars album are noted on the back cover.

Thank you luckyluckyme. This is very interesting that they were from Washington, DC prior to going to Motown. This was 1959 prior to Motown. It makes me wonder did Marvin Gaye know of the girls in the gospel group and helped bring them to Motown? Food for thought. I was hoping to see a Motown picture of the group similar to other artists.

At any rate, thank you. I learned something today I did not know thanks to you.

The album is, of course, available on a Hallmark CD [[but the rear cover isn't the same as on the album). In Italy the album got a release on the Tamla Motown label.

Discogs lists the members as Mae Gooch, Etta Gooch, Sandra Gooch, Elizabeth Davis, Lillian Woods and Lois Russell.

From the Tampa Bay Times ... April 9, 1950 using the same pic as in the above site. They were already in Detroit by this time.

Wow, thanks for these images. I recently bought in UK 2 of the early Motown multi-album packs on CD [[1961, 1962) with 6 albums on each and included The Great Gospel Stars. Finally I can put at least one face

Can you provide a linke to these multi-album packs on CD? I might be interested in obtaining these. Thanks.

The individual album Hallmark CDs at least come with a good representation of the original album front cover whereas artwork on the Real Gone packs is very limited. They are all good value though [[as they're out of copyright releases).
