I was looking at the newly released The Songs of Berry Gordy CD available through Amazon.co.uk. One of the songs is shown as The Magic Song by Bobby Helms. This was attributed on www.dftmc.info to BG-Tyran Carlo.

Has anyone ever heard this song? Obviously this is the one and only song sang by him. It is the only one listed on the www.dftmc.info.

You learn something new every day.

Thanks.

Bobby Helms sang many more songs than that and was famous for singing "My Special Angel". However, here he is singing "The Magic Song" in a YouTube video.

And here he is, singing "My Special Angel" - not a Berry Gordy song as far as I know.

I can hear shades of Jackie Wilson's Gordy-penned numbers in "The Magic Song," albeit with Helm's guitar-based stylistic licks. I see he recorded for Brunswick, as did Jackie, so I suppose Gordy had an "in" at that label as a songwriter/producer, although this song doesn't sound like a Gordy production so I imagine he only wrote it but possibly didn't produce it. [[I always associate Bobby Helms primarily with "Jingle Bell Rock.")

Bobby had an awesome voice. He had a major Christmas song with Jingle Bell Rock. I always thought he was a black singer. I was shocked when I saw his picture.
