Jean, Scherrie, Lynda and Mary in that order.

I like Jean's the best, followed by Scherrie and Mary [[tie), with Lynda bringing up the rear. But Jean owned it. The others sound like they're singing someone else's part. Lol

Lol I agree Ran.

Jean owns it to this day. Technically Scherrie's the better singer but Jean shows why it's hers from the time she opens her mouth.

Jean followed by Lynda and Mary. Scherrie overdoes it.

Jean Terrell's intro was the sweetest sound Motown ever recorded in my opinion. Next up is Mary Wilson, hers is soulful and she sticks closely to the original recorded version. Scherrie, love her, but I hate it when she sings "Stoned Love" because she totally obliterates the song to the point it is unrecognizable with so many long runs and unnecessary Ad-libs. Lynda Laurence? She can go take a seat. I don't know if she even hears herself.

Jean did. This is her signature tune and could almost have been written for her. She didn't just inject a spiritual note to the intro, but there is a sense of urgency about it that still sends a shiver up my spine – Jean said, “Stop what you’re doing, Just stop and listen, this is really important.”

And so it is.

Jean did it best. Scherrie always oversang the song to the point where I couldn't even make out what she was saying. The song is too high in key for Mary.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that about Scherrie's vocals. Some good points there. Of course I was shocked to hear the intro at all after some time of only hearing the UK single and not the album.

This is totally unsuitable for Mary's voice. She tries her best ,but it is just not right. The key is too high for her, but it is less painful than those dreadful attempts she tries on the 60's hits. Give it up Mary. Please.

I think they all did a very credible job. I dislike the whole "best" thing. I think each singer did well and sang it well. We all have our favorites but we don't need to compare because each one did fine.

Jean, Scherrie, Lynda and Mary in that order.

Jean and then Lynda. Scherries oversinging and Marys straining to hit the notes IMO

Fondly,

Roberta

I agree that the key was a little high but she did ok. I’d rather hear this than hearing Scherrie overusing it

^ I don't think the key was high for her. I just think when it comes to pop material, Mary's faults are shown. Her voice is great when it comes to ballads, torch songs and jazz. That's where she really comes alive.

Its Jean doing Jean so that's hard to beat.
If I had to rate the other 3 in this order Scherrie, Lynda and Mary. Actually Mary almost talks the intro.

Jean, then Lynda. Then, even though her voice is totally unsuited for it as the video proves, Mary as I agree also, Scherrie ruins it completely with her incessant, superfluous riffs. But Mary hurts my ears with her flats, brasks, repeating verses and odd phrasing.

Wow, y'all really didn't like Scherrie's intro, did y'all? Lol

This talking thing Mary does leads to a lot of the comments that she can’t sing

Rather than talk sing, it’s smarter to turn up the background singers mics like she often does now

How ironic; in her hit group, her mic got shut down and they replaced her in record; now she says she has to work and she’s got to turn her background up because she can’t reach notes or sing strongly enough
