She never seems very happy

But after reading David Ritz’ book which I think she called lies too - you cone up pretty buggered up if you started having kids at 14

Just because you have a great voice doesn’t mean life will be easy or you’ll be happy

Aretha was used and abused in all the ways anyone can be used and abused. Is it any surprise she always seems sad, at times bitter, and lonely? I often feel she's been misunderstood. She uses being tough as her defense mechanism. You would too if you were in her shoes.

That's often the story of many of these legends. They're so talented yet they have a lot of things going on with them that we can't understand so we often take their anger as them being bitter or shady. Our first instinct when someone of THAT STATURE acts that way, we go "what's wrong with them?"

Well we don't know... we also don't know if the surgeries Aretha has had has helped to increase the crankiness and possible mental illness she may have? Like that book speculated, she often tries to hide her life behind the curtain so we just don't know what she goes through 24-7.

Yes and in the end, flaws and/or gifted, they are just people
