OK, it isn't. But it's excellent and should be released on CD. NOW.

PeaceNHarmony although not the greatest, you got my attention..lol!
I've been posting for the longest that the powers that be in the industry would release this album on CD. The Spice of Life is one of my favorites of all time. Maybe somebody will wake up and make it happen while we still have the Iceman. So I agree, release it NOW!

I haven't heard this album in its entirety, but if it is as good as you claim we may have to point a few people in its direction and hopefully get it cleared for reissue. Even if we get the green light it is likely to be a couple of years before all the clearance issues are overcome. I have several Jerry Butler albums on cd but not this particular one. I agree he is an all time great and it would be fitting to get this out on cd whilst the great man is still with us. Thank you for this PeaceNHarmony.

I remember Jerry Butler's The Spice Of Life LP and it's hit singles "One Night Affair", "I Only Have Eyes For You" & "Close To You [[with Brenda Lee Eager)". It deserves a reissue on CD [[or iTunes, vinyl etc.) along with his other early '70s albums for Mercury Records.

I believe it was a favorite and special release for Mr. Butler and therefore all the more reason for a cd edition - at the time there were very few Black artists who could command a double-lp release. As Motown Eddie relays there were three hit singles from the LP as well so it's not like this is an obscure title!

It is a really good album, and features Jerry at his most understated and soulful best. Ain't Understanding Mellow gets all the limelight, but here's his lovely version of the classic I Only Have Eyes For You. Zero histrionics, yet utterly compelling to watch.
