He had meningitis. OMG!!! :[[

And he was in out of hospitals since MAY of last year!?!?

This is hitting close to home for me: my father had meningitis and he died in May of last year. He was a huge Temptations fanatic too.

DAMN! RIP Dennis. A true legend. :[[

The Temptations curse strikes again. How many members are that now that's deceased? 10?

Paul Williams [[1973; suicide at 34), Al Bryant [[1975; cirrhosis at 36), David Ruffin [[1991; adverse reaction to drugs at 50), Eddie Kendricks [[1992; lung cancer at 52), Melvin Franklin [[1995; seizures at 52), Ricky Owens [[1996 at 57), Ray Davis [[2005; respiratory problems at 65), Harry McGilberry [[2006; drug overdose at 56), Ali-Ollie Woodston [[2010; leukemia at 58), Richard Street [[2013; pulmonary embolism at 70), Damon Harris [[2013; prostate cancer at 62), and now Dennis Edwards [[2018; at 74).

12 deaths. TWELVE. :[[

Dennis was a member of two Temptations lineups where MOST of the members in that lineup died. Tragic... :/

Just found out about Dennis' passing. As someone who's first Temptations purchases were both the "Cloud Nine" single and LP, this hits hard. RIP Dennis Edwards.

Someone had posted a few days ago that he was seriously ill in a St. Louis Hospital. I last saw Dennis when I ran into him at Detroit Metro Airport in 2007. I punched him in his back and he didn't even get mad. We had a nice brief conversation while on the moving walk way. A great guy, a heck of a singer and just an overall good human being that I will miss a lot. Thank you Dennis for over 50 years of great music and singing. I will remember you.

This is truly sad. Dennis was a hell of a singer & I can not picture anyone but him taking David Ruffins place in the group. Rest In Peace Dennis Edwards, Heaven has gained another singing angel.

That is very sad news indeed.

In late 2014 my wife and I went to an after show dinner at Liverpool's Hilton Hotel at which several artists were present - most gave a short show at the dinner and here's Dennis with his then group performing songs of The Temptations, Since that very memorable night,we have lost Billy Paul, David Gest and now Dennis. Don't think twice about going to see the artists you love perform their music - do it.

This hits like a ton a bricks. I’m still reeling from Leah LaBelle’s sudden passing, now Dennis has left us too. As with any and everyone of advanced age we admire, I knew the day would come sooner or later. But it’s still sad regardless!

Sad to see all these people passing.

How many Temptations have there been?

Of these, Dennis was a standout.

I heard on Sirius today that there have been 51 Beach Boys and 5 of them are going to be performing this weekend.

Such sad news. I recall the hair standing up on the back on my young head back in 1968 when he made one of his first major TV appearances on the TBC special leading the Temptations on "I'm Losing You." Such a powerful voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CbzHIVtRj0

They say he passed in a Chicago hospital. I wonder if it was either Northwestern Memorial Hospital or Rush University Medical Center. They are numbers 1 and 2 respectively in Chicago and also rank very highly nationally. He will be SO missed. I saw him with the Temptations Review five years ago in downtown Cleveland. They were awesome.

Terribly sad to hear this... I never got a chance to see him perform live, which I regret to say. I'm sure it would've been an unforgettable experience. RIP Dennis. He was every bit a part of the Temptations' legacy as David was.

He was in Birmingham in late October! If I’d known this would be his last time, I definitely would have gone. So I share that regret!

The group returned to the area a month later. But this time they were billed as “featuring Paul Williams Jr.” Which implied that Dennis wasn’t going to be with him. So it appears he was only making occasional performances at that point and was never out of the woods health wise.

What a big big Motown loss. RIP

Dennis Edwards carried The Temptations name forward seamlessly and so successfully delivered those exciting concepts of Norman Whitfield .

I agree, Roberta. Some folk innocently are curious, while others want to know who they can trash talk about later.

The constant issuer of the public statement is generally Aretha Franklin-to remain in the public eye. And she had a more personal Dennis Edwards connection.

I believe Berry had said something but this is a private family matter where there isn’t a need for non family members to speak unless they feel a need

Yes but many good peopLe with good hearts will share them privately. you obviously prefer posting publicly as youve posted 10 out of 43 postings in this thread, which is absolutely kind and real nice of you but not everyones comfortable sharing that way.

I found out he was in Rush University Medical Center. I figured it would be one of the best.

Wonder if he suffered from bed sores. That's how my dad died. He was recovering from both pneumonia [[bronchial) and meningitis when he got them. I'm guessing they'll say "natural causes" for Dennis like they did for my dad. My dad was only about three years older than Dennis when he passed.

Seeing all this makes me sad to think that Dennis isn't alive to see the recognition he is getting.

I have to say that a lot it is because of his great talent, but a lot of it is because of the kind of person he was. Dennis was just a real nice person. He was a workhorse and would jump up an sing if anyone asked him. The last time I ran into him, he was carrying his own luggage. He wore a tan leather jacket with "Dennis Edwards Temptations Revue" on the back of it. He never was on the "star trip" and I do not recall anyone saying negative things about him throughout his over 50 year career!
