An interesting article from the Michigan Chronicle in which Joan Belgrave claims that Motown hits and music are RARELY heard in businesses in the Motor City. Some food for thought. This is a sad state of affairs in my opinion.

It's been that way for a very long time.

Wow, I never really thought of there not being Motown music played in Detroit, but that looks like how it is. I agree though, Bill, it is kinda sad.

On the bright side, I can attest that Motown Hits ARE being played in businesses here in Vancouver, Canada. I was happily surprised when I heard The Supremes "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking," blasting outside of a restaurant/bar on Granville Island, an upscale tourist destination last week.

Very unfortunate thing, but thinking about this situation it makes sense. I have a cousin who was born and raised in Detroit and she's told me some pretty shocking facts about the city. When I asked her about the Motown Historical Museum and the city's pride in it she told me it's not as celebrated as one would think. To many it's just an old house on West Grand[[Berry Gordy)Boulevard where America's greatest music was made. It seems as though the natives that still reside there have somewhat turned their backs on their rich history and culture. Many places that should be historical landmarks are gone such as The 20 Grand,Bizerte,Golden World,The Pig Pen,Donovan & Sanders buildings, etc. Detroit was probably the greatest city in the midwest and though it's making a steady comeback more consideration should be given to it's incredible past.
