Incredible.

I didn't think this would be an actual release outside of HSN.

“Diamond Diana” Hits The Charts!

The new collection Diamond Diana: The Legacy Collection hits the charts in a big way this week, returning Diana Ross to the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 for the first time in more than 30 years!
Debuting for the week ending January 27, 2018 at #30, Diamond Diana is the singer’s first Top 30 entry on the Billboard 200 since Swept Away hit #26 in 1984. The new collection just edges out I Love You, which topped out at #32 in 2007. Interestingly, Diamond Diana is now the second highest-charting Diana Ross solo hits compilation on the Billboard 200, following only 1976’s Greatest Hits [[which peaked at #13). Meanwhile, on the magazine’s Top Album Sales chart [[which counts only physical album sales, not streaming), Diamond Diana debuts at #5!
Over on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Diamond Diana bows at #18, her first Top 20 entry on the chart since I Love You peaked at #16 in February 2007. Even better, the album sits at #6 on the Top R&B Albums chart.
Congratulations to Miss Diana Ross on the well-deserved success of Diamond Diana!

Interesting that it is a hits package and a remix - all tour songs; something the real Motown fan isn't that thrilled with.

I guess this was already listed. But what an achievement because this is solely based on sales.

Right? Such fun to see Diana in a higher chart position than Taylor!!

The explanation above was helpful. I didn't realize that the Billboard 200 counts streaming and Billboard's Top Albums chart only counts physical sales. So the fact that this made #5 on Billboard's Top Albums chart based on physical sales is quite impressive, especially since there have been so many compilations released over the years. Hopefully this will grab the attention of the higher up's at Universal.

A bit strange that on Amazon's list the cd is at # 4558

Jimi LaLumia

Old school music fans still march into Barnes & Noble, like I did, and march out with a copy!Amazon input is a small component of the Billboard chart; nice try though!

RanRan79
01-29-2018, 08:53 AM
That's a valid observation. I would have thought an album charting so high on Billboard would have a better ranking than 4558 on Amazon. But it makes sense that so many factors would be taken into consideration for Billboard that Amazon's figure could still be so low and the album still be a great seller. Some folks too damn sensitive about anything concerning Ross.

the digital version of DD did nothing on the amazon chart at all; the physical CD on the other hand was Top 5 on the Amazon sales chart, and Vinyl, which is huge at Amazon these days, will be a MONSTER if Motown is smart enough to release this in a vinyl version
