This is a must have for anyone who loves great music. So good that this great band is finally out on CD for the whole world to rediscover. I'm hearing things I never on my LPs. They were way ahead of the game. Chaka Khan said that she was highly influenced by Maxayn, I can totally see that.

I agree Brother Love,I've had my copy a little over a week now. This band was ahead of their time and it's a shame they faced the obstacles they did by being unique AND smart. They needed to be signed with a label that understood their concept and was willing to stick with them until it caught on.After 1974's "Bail Out For Fun" a fully developed style would've been born, but that was all until the "Mandre" albums came along. They're in the same class as Shuggie Otis in terms of being innovators who weren't appreciated or properly exposed in their time. This and Acid Jazz's Leroy Hutson anthology are two of the best reissues this year so far.

I want this but every time I check it's out of stock. I'm a bit afraid
too that it'll be priced way over my budget limits. Anyway, it makes
sense that Chaka would say that, after all Tony Maiden was in Maxayn
before Rufus. Ironically, or maybe not...Maxayn was called to Rufus
after Chaka quit the group. She was still singing as of 2015, featured
with guitarist Allen Hinds. So was original Rufus female lead vocalist
Paulette McWilliams...I'll have to see if they're still at in 2017...

Hello Splanky,I haven't seen your name here in awhile. It's been years since we've communicated musically.I can see the connection between Maxayn and Tony Maiden as she sang on "Are We?" from Rufus's underrated "Numbers" album. She could've picked up where Chaka left off if she had chosen to do so.Convincingly too,but you know how it is when talented people have their own identity successful or not.
