Maxine Powell Finishing and Modelling School Ads

Hello everyone,

Before she joined up with Motown, Maxine Powell ran her own finishing school in Detroit. I've come across some sources that say she held classes out of the Gotham Hotel, where she stayed for many years.

I'm curious if anyone has ever come across any ads for the Maxine Powell Finishing and Modelling School? I've tried checking newspaper and magazine archives, but to no avail.

Back in the day, professional services targeted at the black community were promoted through the churches quite a bit. I do not think she advertised much, if at all in the Detroit Free Press or the Detroit News. The Michigan Chronicle was around in those days, perhaps you could research their archives. Contact them here and tell them that you are doing research. They have been around since 1936:
