One would think somebody could have put together a better collection of songs representing the legacy that was Phyllis Hyman's.
The second disc looks a little better but personally I can do without
Magic Mona, the Barry Manilow duet, the 7 inch edits and any disco
versions. The real meat of this release I either already have or can get elsewhere....

Ditto. Nothing new here. I was hoping for some real rarities.

When I saw the headline, especially the word "Anthology", I was hoping for a Phyllis-sized version of the 68 CD Johnny Mathis collection we recently discussed. Like the others, I was then a little disappointed to see the track listing and realize that it is intended to be more rarities than it is a true representation of her career.

However, having said that, I will buy it just like I have the dozen or so other retrospectives that have come out since her passing. I haven't looked yet to see which label is releasing this, but whoever they are, I simply thank them for remembering this amazing artist. Just having more photos and hopefully some interesting liner notes will add to the pleasure of having this in my collection.

We had been told some time ago that the vaults had been mined for Phyllis material and that the re-issues and re-releases were complete, so I guess this proves that idea wrong. So I say keep them coming, as long as you can figure out creative ways to make them interesting.

Tough crowd...

This is a good overview. The noteworthy Arista stuff, excellent McCoy Tyner collaborations, and "Magic Mona" is one of her most memorable songs. It's only missing her latter years -- but those CDs are commercially available.

I think disc 2 has some interesting stuff that have not appeared on previous compilations. I have all the material on disc 1 several times over, and the Philly stuff is readily available elsewhere so i am quite pleased to have the songs on disc 2 together for the 1st time. There can never be too many overviews of this nagnificent vocalist.
