I am in the deep south, 36 miles southwest of Baton Rouge. The forums are very nice and a lot of great information here that is not on the main stream media. So many great artists have passed and most of us aren't aware of it until we read it some place such as here.

Welcome aboard HAL,

I am in the deep south, 36 miles southwest of Baton Rouge.

Just what do you think you are you saying, HAL? According to my data banks, you became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992.

;)

Welcome Hal.
Here's a great cut produced by the late Lionel Whitfield from Baton Rouge. It features Marion Jarvis.Perhaps she's from your neck of the woods http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ6N2DeeDVE

Hal:Do you know if that black-owned record store in Baton Rouge on Government is still in biz.The owner was Buddy Clark. He might have some info on Marion Jarvis.

I rarely go into Baton Rouge except for Doctors appointments, I am in that government Health Care program named Veterans Health Care ;). I do remember the store you speak of but it was in the mid 70's the last time I was there. I will be sure and check it out next time I go, that won't be for another 90 days, muh heart meds run out and they won't give you any more unless you can prove you're still breathing!

Hi Hal:I was last in that store in the late 80's.Buddy told me he led a band that backed up Joe Tex back in da day.Best wishes.

Joe Died a young man , a scant 49 years old. I just read up on him on Wikipedia because it has been years since I've heard or read his name until you just posted it. I had to laugh when I read this " "Ain't Gonna Bump No More [[With No Big Fat Woman)"" heh heh, He was a colorful character for sure, it say's he and James Brown had an ongoing feud and Joe named one of his tunes "You Keep'er" because Brown had been going out with his ole lady.!!
Finally he was living in Navasota Texas when he died, I remember driving through there going back and fourth to Bryan Texas, I worked for my Father in law at the time and he was an electrical contractor from Houston, we were wiring the first 450 apartments being built on the outskirts of Bryan. That was 72 and now I can't even find them on Google Earth the place has built up so much. Thanks for dropping the name it's been a long time since I heard him on a jukebox in Houston.
