A group not mentioned much around here. Always liked them...a lot. Sadly, Diane is no longer with us. Enjoy.

I adore Love Unlimited. They had such style and grace, and some of their songs form the soundtrack to my life. Happy Memories, and thank you for posting lakeside.

LU had such a great harmony sound; I, too, wonder why there's so little interest. I really, really [[really!) want a cd reissue of 'From A Girl's Point of View' with the original orange sunset foldout sleeve reproduced. Such a great LP.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with Love Unlimited... I will have to check them out. They’re the group involved with Barry White right? :)

Correct. Member Glodean James is his widow.

This vid was a real treat. Thanks, lakeside!

If you like lush philly style productions you will love Love Unlimited Tom. Well worth checking out. Walking in the rain [[with the one i love) is one of my all time favourite songs. It still sends a shiver down my spine.

Correct - and actually they hit before Barry did as a solo. A wonderful harmony sound and a perfect balance between girlishness and womanliness.

Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) is the vocal trio who contributed cooing background vocals on Barry White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/barry-white-mn0000149044)'s million-selling hits and sold-out concerts, as well as having their own gold single, "Walkin' in the Rain With the One I Love," and a number one R&B smash, "I Belong to You." The trio consisted of sisters Glodean and Linda James [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/linda-james-mn0001265405) and Diane Taylor [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/diane-taylor-mn0001224994). Glodean first met White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044), her future husband, through a mutual friend. She was a fan of White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044)'s before she even knew it, having bought Viola Wills [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/viola-wills-mn0000224252)' single "Lost Without the Love of My Guy," a song White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) co-wrote and arranged while he was an A&R director and producer with Bob Keene [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/bob-keene-mn0000065404)'s Bronco Records.
White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) started working with the group, who hadn't done any professional singing. They rehearsed for almost a year. White wrote "Walkin' in the Rain With the One I Love" with lyrics that were inspired by conversations with Glodean. White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) christened the group Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908). A friend of White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044)'s, Larry Nunes [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/larry-nunes-mn0001276056), took the record to Russ Regan [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/russ-regan-mn0001028706), who was the head of the Uni label owned by MCA. "Walkin' in the Rain With the One I Love," with White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) "phoning" in his part, went gold, peaking at number six R&B, number 14 pop on Billboard's charts. Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908)'s From a Girl's Point of View We Give You... album became a million-seller. Soon after, Regan [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/regan-mn0001028706) left Uni for 20th Century Records. Without Regan [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/regan-mn0001028706), White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044)'s relationship with Uni soured.
With his relationship with Uni in chaos and Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) contract-bound with the label, White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) decided he needed to work with another act. He wanted to work with a male artist. White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) made three song demos of himself singing and playing the piano. Nunes [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/nunes-mn0000781810) heard them and insisted that he re-record and release them as a recording artist. They argued for days about it. Then, Nunes [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/nunes-mn0000781810) somehow convinced White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) to do it and White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) signed with 20th Century Records where Regan [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/regan-mn0001028706) was president. This decision led to White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) having a gold and platinum-laced recording career.

White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) got a contractual release from Uni for Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) and they joined him at 20th Century. Their first singles for the label were "Oh Love, Well We Finally Made It" [[a Top 40 R&B hit), "It May Be Winter Outside [[But in My Heart It's Spring)," and "Under the Influence of Love" -- all from the LP Under the Influence [[http://www.allmusic.com/album/under-the-influence-mw0000669563), issued in summer 1973. White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) originally recorded the latter two songs with singer Felice Taylor [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/felice-taylor-mn0000139739). While working on material for the next Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) album, Glodean James [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/glodean-james-mn0001756634) suggested that White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) use the piano introduction from "Lost Without the Love of My Guy" on a new song. At first resistant to the idea, White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) relented and re-used the piano chord progression on "I Belong to You."

The majestic ballad, arranged by Gene Page [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/gene-page-mn0000803114), went to number one R&B in late 1974. It was included on the album In Heat [[http://www.allmusic.com/album/in-heat-mw0000740271), issued in fall 1974. It was Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908)'s most exciting album, featuring the same studio band heard on White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044)'s hits: guitarists Ray Parker, Jr. [[Raydio [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/raydio-mn0000873721), "Ghostbusters," co-writer with White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) on "You See the Trouble With Me"), Wah Wah Watson [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/wah-wah-watson-mn0000225971), Lee Ritenour [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/lee-ritenour-mn0000228444), David T. Walker [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/david-t-walker-mn0000220426), Dean Parks [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/dean-parks-mn0000227159), and Don Peake [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/don-peake-mn0000190965), bassists Nathan East [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/nathan-east-mn0000317169) and Wilton Felder [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/wilton-felder-mn0000575199) of the Crusaders [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-crusaders-mn0000136075), drummer Ed Greene [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/ed-greene-mn0000797428), and percussionist Gary Coleman [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/gary-coleman-mn0000762719). In Heat [[http://www.allmusic.com/album/in-heat-mw0000740271) included the follow-up single "Share a Little Love in Your Heart" [[number 21 R&B, spring 1975), and standout tracks "Move Me No Mountain," "I Needed Love - You Were There," a long version of "I Belong to You," and "Love's Theme" -- with lyrics!

After White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) left 20th Century, Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) recorded for White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044)'s CBS-distributed label Unlimited Gold, charting most notably with the steppers' favorite "High Steppin' Hip Dressin' Fella [[You Got It Together)," number 45 R&B, fall 1979, from the LP Love Is Back [[http://www.allmusic.com/album/love-is-back-mw0000618560). The married couple charted as Barry White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/barry-white-mn0000149044) and Glodean White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/glodean-white-mn0001788233) with "Didn't We Make It Happen Baby" and "I Want You" in 1981, and recorded a full LP, Barry & Glodean. After eight Barry White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/barry-white-mn0000149044) albums, four Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) albums, four Love Unlimited Orchestra [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-orchestra-mn0000298888) albums, constant touring, and dealing with the rigors of the music industry, White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) decided to take a break. Returning to recording, White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/white-mn0000149044) had his biggest success since his '70s heyday with the platinum single "Practice What You Preach" and the multi-platinum album Icon Is Love on A&M.

Glodean White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/glodean-white-mn0001788233)'s background vocals can be heard on Barry White [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/barry-white-mn0000149044)'s 1999 Private Music/Windham Hill/BMG album Staying Power [[http://www.allmusic.com/album/staying-power-mw0000598577). Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/artist/love-unlimited-mn0000249908) can be heard on the soundtrack of the 20th Century Fox movie The Together Brothers, originally released on 20th Century Records during the summer of 1974 and reissued on CD in June 1999, and 1997's Best of Love Unlimited [[http://www.allmusic.com/album/best-of-love-unlimited-mw0000022580), both from PGD/Polygram Pop.

I saw them in their "hey-day" as they opened for Barry White backed by the Love Unlimited Orchestra[[which I'm sure had to include many local sumphony players). What a great show they put on, then they stood to the side & backed Barry White when he came on.

It was reissued on CD in 1994 by Varese Sarabonde with two bonus tracks.13496

I think that Love Unlimited had 5 albums released. It would be great if they were issued on cd as part of the 5 classic album series. There was a set of Barry White albums issued in this series a few years ago.

Love Unlimited has remained one of my favorite girl groups from the day I first heard "Walking In The Rain With The One I Love" upon its release in the early '70s. That first album was so incredibly Motown-ish! I knew these very special ladies were gonna be around for a long time.
