Just spent a pleasant evening talking to an engineer / producer friend who was part of some big recordings...... look what came up...Labelle demo tapes when they were only just starting out.... rehearsing, basic but absolutely startling...obvious what talent the girls had.

Wonderful - thank thank thank you. I'm such a Labelle-hag. A once-in-a-lifetime group.

And again I say what a travesty they are not in the Rock and Roll HOF

FANTASTIC!!! Dear God, please let there be a full length version of "Stay With Me, Baby" in a vault somewhere. In my mind, I have ALWAYS heard Labelle singing the classic. Also, would like to get "Four Women."

Luke the recordings were transferred from an acetate. Like I stated it's just the girls vocals accompanied by a piano. Patti sings all the leads [[with a few solos) with killer background vocals by Nona and Sarah, like only Labelle could ever deliver. The songs sound very Gospel with an element of pure Soul. These tracks were recorded in March of 1971 before the release of their first album "Labelle." Love their take on the Silvia Moy and Shorty Long's "And This Is Love." On "Fancy" Patti changed the lyric and says "I might have been born just poor black trash, but Fancy was my name." I also like their covers of Laura Nyro's "Brown Earth," Elton John's "Border Song," Melanie's "Lay Down [[Candles In The Rain) and Dory Previn's "Esther's First Communion."

Brother Love, What's the chance of sharing them in a zippyfile?
