This lady's name came up recently in another thread and when I noticed that she had recorded for Malaco, I decided to order it. [[You guys know about me and my fondness for certain Malaco artists.)

So I gave it a first listen today, and although there was no one cut that made me jump out of my seat, it was a very pleasant old-school trip, even though it is a much more recent recording. She reminded me at different times of Shirley Brown, Bettye Lavette, Betty Everett, and Mavis Staples. She did not have the spiciness of my girl Denise, but I could overlook that.

Most of the material was new to me, but she did cover two 70s classics..."Use Me" and "Angel in Your Arms" quite admirably. So overall a nice CD and well worth the money. I believe I read somewhere that she was once on American Idol, but I cannot remember her from there. Did she perhaps compete under a different name?

The AI connection I can't answer but thanks for reminding me about this title; I'll give it a listen.
