Hi!

There's a compilation of some late 1960s/early 1970s Philly soul sides reviewed at

http://www.soulexpress.net/birthofphillysound.htm

Also the first-ever solo album by a guitar virtuoso, Reggie Young

Heikki, have you done a full interview with Bobby Eli ?.
He told me some years back that he started out as a member of the Vibrations backing band. He toured with the group & even came to the UK to play behind them here.
The Vibrations did at least 2 / 3 UK tours back in the mid to late 60's, I'm trying to find out which ones Bobby was on ?? 13111

Hi John!

I did one in 2003, and Bobby told me that the first group he played during his teens was called the Ivytones. Next came the Chord Steppers, and then the Dreamlovers, and then Herb Johnson & the Impacts, and yes! - "I played guitar with the Vibrations a while off and on... It was towards the end of the Vibrations' Okeh period. Gamble and Huff did a session on them called "Love In Them There Hills" [[in '68) and I played on that."

Cheers, he obviously didn't mention touring the UK to you then.

No, John, he didn't, but he did say that "from 1985 I started traveling to London quite extensively. I would go there quite a lot and I recorded a lot of European acts at that time, most of which did not really see the light of the day in the States." I didn't go into details in terms of defining those acts.
However, when talking to me, I felt like he switched on to the London accent :-).

I am a real Philly fanatic so my slightly biased rating would probably be 9 out of 10. Great compilation if you have any interest in the developing Philly sound.
