Mel Cheren later ran a hotel in 23rd Street in New York...called Colonial House Inn. I would purposely stay there to see Mel and to hear all his stories. He used to keep me amused for hours.

There were successes yeah...but there was also a lot of uphill battles to fight...and which he didn't always win.

Wonderful man. I missed seeing him when I would visit New York

A favorite of mine on this label -- a little "campy," I guess -- was Julius Brown's "Diana." I have never seen it reissued on CD.

Don't know how I missed the Bettye LaVette track, great song... but yes "Hot Shot" was huge. That still get's the floor going every once in a while when I go out to support my dj friends
