Indeed. It seems soul fans can't catch a break. "Rolling Down The Mountainside" by The Main Ingredient is one of my forever-favorites. That song evokes such good memories.

Cuba Gooding also cut two albums with Motown - "The First Cuba Gooding Album" and "Love Dancer".

In addition to the 2 albums mentioned he also had one 45 issued on the Motown label in March of 1978. Motown 1440 Mind Pleaser b/w Wher Would I Be Without You. Mind Pleaser also issued promotonally as an extended version as part of PR-35A2 running 4:16. Unusual ratio of 45's versus albums. Usually a slew of 45's and one album but in this case it was different.

So sorry to hear about Cuba Gooding Sr. My favorite song by The Main Ingredient is "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend". Rest In Peace, Cuba Gooding Sr.

He had a beautiful tenor voice but signing with Motown in the late 70s was a mistake. I'm sure he was hungry but he should have known that he would have to stand in line behind Gaye, Wonder, Robinson and even Jermaine Jackson and BIlly Paul for promotion and good material. Motown released two cheap disco albums on him and gave him no push whatsoever thus derailing his solo career. Motown was known for doing this to ultimately destroy the careers of competitive talent.

Kanye West famously sampled this song for Alicia Keys' hit "You Don't Know My Name":

The Main Ingredient is definitely among my favorite vocal groups! I remember getting a copy of the "A Quiet Storm" collection, [[Which only featured ballads) and becoming an instant fan! Both Cuba and his late predecessor Donald McPherson were superb vocalist. I especially love Cuba's rendition of Where Were You When I Needed You! & Where are You?
