If you go see her, you'll hear her saying what a good time she is having and what a blessed life she has.

But she just does it as she wants to now but big breaks in between and with nothing to prove, no Motown and Berry to live up to.............it's just cruise time.

It is get the retirement money time - likely among the richest, and well invested OLD SCHOOL DIVAS - Ross is no fool for adding as many dates to this very successful run she is enjoying, and WORKING OVERTIME.

Baby, you are taking my post waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

No doubt, Miss Ross is a diva, THAT has been established! LOL! However, it is interesting that she flies commercial, without an entourage, and drives a Ford truck and Chrysler. All of these things are counter intuitive to the idea that most of maintain a diva to be. Remember the days of the yellow Rolls?

I heard a story about the difference between Diana and Lil Wayne staying at a major hotel on their recent tours.

When Lil Wayne came to town, he refused to get out of his bus and blocked the entrance to the Hotel for about 5 hours and caused general mayhem and acted liked a dick.

When Diana Ross came to town, they didn't even know she was in the hotel; no entourage, no repaints, no pot parties, no parties, no Supremes, no nothing.

Miss lish, that doesn't surprise me at all. Once a person gets to a certain age, you pick the car that doesn't kill your back when you ride in it! When I think of "Back In My Arms Again", The Frontier Hotel, Ed Sullivan, "Honey We Is Terrific", The Copa, The Hollywood Palace, Lady Sings The Blues and even with Michael Jackson on Ease on down the road I am in just awe at her performance on stage and I am glad that I am alive and have been here to see her perfom again. A lot of my favorites have gone on.

We are so fortunate that she [[along with others from her era) are still able to work and are willing to work. We are losing so many of the greats so we need to enjoy Diana, Mary, the Three Degrees, BB King and others who are still out there doing it. The clock is ticking not only for them but for us as well.

Diana Ross
By Craig Hlavaty
It's not easy to write a compact and adequate overview of what Diana Ross has accomplished in her run - now six decades long - as one of the reigning queens of R&B and soul. There was The Supremes, one of the most successful of the girl groups of the '60s, amassing hits and smashes like “Baby Love,” “You Keep Me Hanging On” and “Stop! In The Name Of Love.” In 1970, Ross left for a solo career that would bring her even more accolades than received with the Supremes. Her solo singles were a constant presence on the charts, carrying her fan base into the '70s with forward-thinking songwriting and production values. She also dipped into acting, first with the Billie Holiday biopic Lady Sings the Blues, the rags-to-riches drama Mahogany, and her most popular role as Dorothy in the campy Wizard Of Oz retelling The Wiz, opposite a young Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow. Today Ross is the grand diva of her genre, still a sought-after live act, and very much the template for Beyonce Knowles as we know her today.

As Berry Gordy once told them all - "...you better work while you can". So she is most likely adding more millions to what she has - while she is still in great shape to do these kinds of tours.

ShareLive review: Diana Ross at ACL Live
By Michael Corcoran | Monday, February 28, 2011, 12:27 AM

She doesn’t have the majestic voice of Barbra Streisand or Aretha Franklin and can’t put on a show like Bette Midler, Tina Turner or Lady Gaga, but Diana Ross proved to be the equal of those divas Sunday night at Austin City Limits Live just by being herself. Thanks to her time leading the Supremes, she’s the most successful female recording artist of all time, yet when she unrolled 21 songs in 80 minutes, it felt less like an icon going through the motions than a total pro keeping the show moving along.

At 66, Ross looks great and sounded even better, moving between her Motown classics [[“Where Did Our Love Go,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “You Can’t Hurry Love”) and her disco period [[“Upside Down,” “Love Hangover”) with an effortless grace. The beam never left her face all night and it felt great to be in a room with her and her history.

Costume changes dictated the hew of each segment, especially when she wore blue sequins on a jazz vocal turn near the 3/4 mark that opened with “The Look of Love” and moved into a couple of Billie Holiday songs from “Lady Sings the Blues.” Her nine-piece band got plenty of room on “Don’t Explain,” which gave Ms. Ross a chance to don a ’50s-styled red dress for “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?” When she started that song, a well-wisher from the crowd presented Lady Di with a bouquet of yellow roses the size of a sleeping child. “Help!” Ross said, good-naturedly, as a stagehand finally relieved her of the well-intended baggage, so the song could go on.

Ross rarely talked between songs and only commented once, asking a fan who she was talking to on her cellphone. Her concentration was clearly on the set, which climaxed with 2,500 fans [[not quite a sellout) feeling every bit of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and then dancing wildly to “I Will Survive,” which is not Ross’ song. Well, Sunday night it was.

A few words about ACL Live, which I had not previously attended a show at. It’s spectacular, the best mid-sized live music venue I’ve ever been to. When I got bored during “Touch Me In the Morning,” for obvious reasons, I went up to the much-ballyhooed “worst seat in the house” and it was just as good as my seat on the floor and without the annoying amateur videographers that are making live shows a bit of a drag. [[It was easier on the rest of us when these smartphone bottomfeeders were merely stage door autograph hounds.)

Everyone was in such a good mood Sunday night, with even the security crew smiling and asking if everything was okay. With the gracious Ms. Ross at the center of this bowl of good vibes, an hour and twenty minutes flew by like a nap on a plane. And yet the show was completely satisfying.

I don’t know if I could ever go to Stubb’s again.

[[Selist after the jump.)

1. “I’m Coming Out”
2. “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday”
3. “My World Is Empty Without You”
4. “Where Did Our Love Go”
5. “Baby Love”
6. “Stop! In the Name of Love”
7. “You Can’t Hurry Love”
8. Love Child”
[[first costume change during samba break)
9. “The Boss”
10. “Upside Down”
11. “Touch Me In The Morning”
12. “It’s My House”
13. Love Hangover”
14. “Ease On Down the Road”
[[costume change)
15. “The Look of Love”
16. “Fine and Mellow” [[as Billie Holiday)
17. “Don’t Explain” [[more Billie)
[[costume change)
18. “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”
19. “Do You Know Where You’re Going To? [[Theme From Mahogany)”
20. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”
[[costume change)
21. “I Will Survive” [[reprised for encore)

INCREDIBLE SHOW! Just needed fewer fans sitting in the middle of rows that felt they needed to run back and forth to the bar.

Hi, “Ross doesn’t have a majestic voice like: Streisand, Franklin, entertain like Bette, Tina, and Gaga?!!!!! No way. Ross set’s the standard. She’s not a broadway singer, she’s not a gospel R&B singer, she’s not a vaudeville, wild, trendy entertainer. [[Btw, I like all the above artist.)

But Diana Ross is a stylist, that didn’t fit in a typical mold. Oh boy, can she entertain. All the artist listed above could take lessons from Ross! They all have their unique style, but Ross sincerely soars.

I’ve seen her current show in Los Angeles. I also seen her many years ago, when she first started solo. Diana Ross is sincerely one of the pro of pros that deserves the utmost respect. She has had beautiful performances on record and live in concert. I will never miss one of her concerts when she is in town. The last time she did The Pantages in Hollywood, ranks out to be one of the all time best I’ve seen. And I’ve seen all the above, and more.

I'm a little disappointed to see that Diana hasn't really kept the format that she had last year when she began the tour. She was performing some different songs we haven't heard in a while, like "The Boss", "Mirror Mirror", "Reflections", "You Keep Me Hangin' On", "It's Hard For Me To Say", "Missing You", "You're Not Alone", etc. It was also great hearing the real horns and strings. I think she still has the horn section with her. Hopefully she will consider adding some of these songs back into her set list, including one or two rarities, like "Keep An Eye". There are a lot of ticket holders from the general public who attend her show and obviously expect to hear all of the big hits, but performing one or two more obscure songs also keep her more loyal fans happy as well. It keeps the show fresh IMO.

^^^^The Diva is getting old now - becoming a woman of a certain age. It is too much to expect her to do some rare old Diana Ross and The Supremes songs.

It cost a fortune to do the charts for these numbers as well as the staging and lighting. She will likely stick to what is easy, profitable. and expected.

She depends on Rhonda for most decisions these days.

She depends on Rhonda to decide what her set will be? How did you find out about that? Has it been reported, have you been told, did it come from reliable sources? Or what? Nothing has been reported or told to me, but Diana has been singing the Supremes hits for years and probably paid for the charts decades ago. Yes, the audience does expect the hits and she has no choice but to give many of them. But she mixes up the show and usually no two shows are entirely identical. The last time I saw Diana live, the audience gave a very positive reaction to the few obscure and unexpected songs that she sang. Did you notice the same reaction from the audience the last time that you saw her perform live?

She's back to doing pretty much the same set list she did for her I Love You tour dates in 2007 and 2008. Does she still have the video screen behind her showing clips and images designed by her son Ross Naess? Or is that gone as well?

Personally, I would like her to do more of the lesser-sung hits like "Love Is Here And Now You're Gone," "Come See About Me," "In And Out Of Love," "I'm Still Waiting," "Surrender," etc. It would be nice for her to sing those. I know she sung "Come See About Me" at the beginning of her tour last year, but after a few dates she cut the song completely from the show. I was disappointed when she didn't perform it after a few dates. I actually wanted her to sing "Love Is Here And Now You're Gone" on the tour. It would have been perfect with the strings when she used them.

Exactly. This is what I mean. She's been doing this set list for a while. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, because I love Miss Ross as much as the rest of you and I will go see her in concert every opportunity I get. But I don't really understand why she seemed to have dropped all the new songs. The new tour was very exciting and fresh.

As far as I know, she isn't using the video screen anymore either.

I doubt it's expensive for Miss Ross to add some of these lesser known songs to her set list. I'm sure she already has the charts. She did many of these songs for the Return to Love tour [[ie. Reach Out I'll Be There, Best Years of My Life, Money [[That's What I Want), Love Is Here And Now You're Gone, I Hear A Symphony, etc., etc.)

Brad: I agree, I would also like to hear her sing "I'm Still Waiting". She does that, along with "Chain Reaction", whenever she tours the UK and Europe.

I think one of the issues is the necessity of including all the hits that are popular such as Why Do Fools Fall in Love, some of which the hardcore fans could do without. But it is nearly impossible to take that out and put in Love Is Here or In and Out of Love. It would be nice if she would do a rarities show for the fans some night and do rare songs only; she could even charge a lot for us to go!

But would a casual fan even miss "Why Do Fools"? It charted well in its time, but it's not a Ross song that gets a lot of play on oldies stations. Missing You still gets some play.

I also wonder if the strings and video were dropped because they were too expensive and were causing the tour to lose money or not be as profitable as it could be?

Not sure what a casual fan would miss ~ Baby Love, maybe? Stop in the Name of Love? And Ain't No Mountain High Enough.

I'm not wild over Why Do Fools Fall in Love either but it is one of the top five songs she does in terms of response, as is I Will Survive, Mountain, Stop, and Baby Love.

I think it all depends on the size of the venue and the size of the stage as to whether they can accommodate the video screens smark21. As for the strings, well sometimes she has them and other times she doesn't.

See photos of the legendary Diana Ross in our slideshow.

Wham, bam, thank you ma'am.

Blame it on David Bowie, but Aftermath couldn't help thinking that while settling into our balcony seat at Verizon Tuesday. Diana Ross and her deluxe band were pounding out "I'm Comin' Out" and "More Today Than Yesterday" one after the other, barely allowing the audience [[or the saxophone players) to pause for breath. From the moment she descended the Hollywood-style staircase, they were on the clock.

A little earlier, we were reflecting that Tuesday would be our first time to ever see one of the real legends of Motown live, not to mention '60s soul in general. Aretha ain't doing so well these days, and we'll be in Austin when Gladys Knight is here [[dammit). See you at the Arena, Smokey.

As happy as we were that we could see Diana Ross, in the days leading up to the show we couldn't help but wonder if we really should. Why mess with a memory? Call it Chuck Berry syndrome. Those questions were laid to rest about halfway through "My World Is Empty Without You," the first in an extended string of hits by the "super-duper Supremes," as Ross put it.

Luckily, all those Supremes songs are designed for maximum impact in a minimum amount of time, punctuated by a couple of off-script hiccups - Ross exclaiming "Real horns!" after a tasty baritone solo in "Where Did Our Love Go?" and giggling in the middle of "Stop! In the Name of Love." Ross may not have the range she used to, but vocal acrobatics were never what she was about anyway, and Tuesday her voice fit her and the material like one of the five or six red-carpet gowns she twirled around in.

The band's professionalism was up top from the outset, all 12 of them - four horns, three backup singers, two drummers, keyboards, guitar and bass. It took Aftermath until much later in the set to realize how impeccably arranged these songs really are, down to the subtle call-and-response between the horns and backup vocalists, who had plenty of time to shine themselves during Ross' several wardrobe changes. [[During which she kept singing, though... the lady is a pro.)

The Supremes mini-set crested with a samba interlude in "Love Child," which created a natural Cuban slide into the heavyweight Earth, Wind & Fire funk of "The Boss." So it went for the better part of an hour, through a lush "Love Hangover," smooth-jazz suite highlighted by the Anchorman flute of "Touch Me In the Morning," and spot-on Billie Holiday tribute of the Ellington-swinging "Fine and Mellow" and Harlem lullaby "Don't Explain."

Also, we hope the young lady [[as in, like, 12) we saw dancing like a dervish to "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" downloads it from iTunes today. That's Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, dear.

Some of the set felt rushed, but it was the more forgettable parts like "9 to 5" carbon copy "Take Me Higher," and there was a lot of material to pack into 80 minutes. When Ross or the band needed to stretch out, they did, especially on the savory "Smooth Operator" tenor solo that prefaced "The Look of Love."

The important parts got their due, like all four or five rungs on the ladder of the intro of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." By the time she emerged clad like a spangly golden disco ball for finale "I Will Survive," Ross and her band were savoring the moment as much as the audience.

Then she came back out one more time, dressed in black, and asked the crowd if they had seen her talking about her kids on Oprah. We're guessing they did.

Ross apologized for her voice being gone - that's what she said, "gone" - and not only invited the backup singers down front to help her sing the tender title track to her 2007 album I Love You, but asked the sound man to turn up the band to compensate for her diminished vocals.

Now that's a diva.

Personal Bias: Glamazon Afro with the giant hoop earrings dancing all night in the balcony: Call me. Seriously, I missed "I Hear a Symphony," but that's about it.

Overheard In the Crowd: "I love her!" Also, "I love you!"

The Crowd: Motown meets Mix 96.5. Full, heavily female, dressed to the nines for a Tuesday. And one 36-year-old unshaven white dude [[i.e. me).

Random Notebook Dump: Ross' last Top 10 hit was 1984's "Swept Away."

The only version of "My World Is Empty Without You" I know is by Lee Fields & The Expressions and the Diana Ross version was just as amazing as the Lee Fields version.

She looked and sounded great. What a show!
