Now this one I totally and utterly agree with... an all-time classic, one of my personal faves... and a fitting tribute to Joni :)

Thanks for the post, thom. Very interesting!

There are a couple of surprises in that list - Wilson Pickett's In The Midnight Hour, for one. Also The Wiz Broadway Cast recording [[which needs to be remastered in digital form as the first pressing is horrible!!!).

The total number of songs on the registry is now at 475.

Trivia question. Does anyone know the number of Motown songs that are on the registry?
I think it should be 470!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very nice and diverse list. But since they included different versions of LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING, I'm surprised that they didn't include Kim Weston's as well. That is the one I remember most vividly. My local soul station used it to sign off every day at sunset.

I don't know the list, only the tracks posted by Thommg , but I think that many Philadelphia International "anthems" deserves to be included [[for their "universal and brotherly love" and social messages or / and for their contribution to the popular culture of XX Century in the US and worldwide. "Love Train"; "Wake Up Everybody"; "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto"; ...)

Haaa... I agree

I had a check and there are actually only five [[!) Motown songs and albums included in the National Registry!!! These are:

Where Did Our Love Go? - The Supremes
The Tracks Of My Tears - The Miracles
Dancing In The Street - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas
Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye

[[I might have missed some)

We at least need a Smokey Robinson compsition included. How about the Temptations' 'My Girl'?

Totally agree Ozmo. That song is a standard, a classic, a masterpiece! I'd certainly deem it "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant"...! :)
