Does anyone have a link to anybody from this Detroit family?

Aurthur Clement "OC" Tolbert [[aka King Diamond on Power House records) recorded for Dave Hamilton in the late 60s, early 70s and the whole darn family recorded a 45 for him in

The family moved to Detroit from Selma, Alabama. There were ten children one side of the 45 is featuring "Brother Mother Tolbert"! There was a Velma Tolbert who may have been the mother or a sister.

One of his sessions featured Billy Smith on bass, Larry Talbert drums, Wallace Childs tambourine, Big Bob tenor sax and Don Downes on trumpet. If anyone knows any of them, maybe they have a lead.

We have now accumulated enough tracks for a very good CD and would like to learn as much about him and his family as we can, so that we can feature it in the CD liner notes.

Thanks

I should have a copy of Israel's lp kicking around at home.Perhaps some bio info is in the liner notes.I can't promise when I'll find it as my place is in shambles.I'm a pack rat.

Come on Detoiters, there were about ten of them. Isn't one about somewhere?

Apparently O C was known simply as Tolbert when he re-located to NYC with producer Jack Taylor and hung out at the famous Harlem World nightclub in the 80s/90s. He also recorded as King Diamond and Damn Sam The Miracle Man!

Back in da day, one call to the now deceased Famous Coachman would have provided you with leads for sure.

There's a Rojac label 45 on eBay right now... not sure if it's him or not:

That's the chap Graham, he was in NYC by then working with Jack Taylor.

Someone very kindly furnished me with the address of five likely family members due to my posting on here, so hopefully I'll learn more soon. The waiting for the snail mail is unbearable!

I've found this article on ISRAEL TOLBERT ..

http://www.sirshambling.com/artists/I/israel_tolbert.html

It seems that Israel was born in Montgomery Alabama, which is only about 20-30 miles away from Selma Alabama .. so there could be some family connection with O.C. After all, Tolbert is not a very common surname is it!!
