The Boss failed to ignite UK fans the three singles released from this LP couldnt pull a silver disc
Swept Away and its singles failed to make an impression either "Missing You" was a relative flop in the Uk..
Chain Reaction hitting number one couldnt push the Eaten Alive set to Silver status
..and yet Workin Ovetime sold more than these three stellar LPs !!!!

Great to see that Love & Life went Gold in the UK. It's funny, because before I even viewed this thread, I headed over to Amazon UK and ordered myself a copy tonight. It's been on my want list for a long time, even though I already have all of the songs. I love my compilations. :D I thought I should mention that it's less than $6 for this great two disc set! A bargain for sure.

Exactly, Nomis. Plus, there's some other less common tracks included, like "Your Love" and "In the Ones You Love". It's the only Diana Ross 2 CD collection that I know of that covers her entire career [[with the exception of "The Complete Collection").

Well Diana just happened later in the UK..............and Diana or Supremes, the sound was the same voice.

Mary Brewster..if you read the list a little more closely you would discover that vast majority of the disc awards include no Supremes material..a few do but the majority dont..and the few that do have a heavier mix of Diana solo material on them..you cant dispute the facts..Diana was more popular in The UK after she departed the girls..plain and simple..I count 15 supremes free LP awards..read it again my dear..

I think in the 60's, The Supremes sold a lot of 45 rpm singles, but not as many albums [[of course there were several that went Gold and/or Platinum). That was the way the industry was back then. Most companies focused on the sales of hit singles. That's why we always see the reissue of these compilations again and again. That was the stuff that was most popular. With Diana, I think she sold a lot more in terms of 78 rpm albums. Some people like to try and discount Diana by saying that her career declined and was less successful without The Supremes. I don't agree with that view. It's clear that Diana Ross & the Supremes were a sinking ship in the late 60's in terms of hit singles and record sales...and don't forget that Diana was in fact still in the group. The step for Diana to go solo was necessary. With any business, when your sales are slumping over a long period of time, it's necessary to "reinvent" your business and breath some new life into it. That's exactly what Diana Ross and The Supremes needed IMO. They needed new life. Diana going solo was inevitable. The waters needed stirring.

Just as you can't dispute that BPI [[The British Recorded Music Industry) certified awards weren't introduced until April 1973. PROVING that it's impossible to determine which Supremes LP WOULD have been certified.

I think it reached the Top 10 in the UK.

An impressive list no doubt, Ross was truly riding high during this time. I think "I'm Still Waiting" would have done better if it had started off better with the music. The Phil Chill Mix is was got me to like the song but by then it was already a hit.

The Supremes Greatest Hits [[a 16 track compilation from the US double album) was a huge number one in the UK for about 6 or 7 weeks. I am sure that would have won an award for that. The "Rodgers & Hart" did well on initial release but it had another spell of sales when Greatest Hits was top of the LP chart. The Supremes Join the Temps album did great too. Might be worth checking out any old British Charts for any that I might have missed.

Diana's "Everything Is Everything" achieved a fair amount of UK sales in about 1971although I am not convinced it was in the same league as the aformentioned "Greatest Hits" and "Supremes Join the Temptations".

In his first book on Diana, J. Randy said that it was the fourth best selling pop album by an American act in 1964, the top three being the soundtracks to Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, and Fiddler On The Roof. This of course could mean the same thing,as soundtracks might be considered a different animal. But I don't think they outsold the Beatles.

not sure, i know the supremes as name[[with and without d.ross) is the 2nd most hits by a female group,#1 is bananarama.
supremes and the four tops made the top 30 at least once,maybe twice.
diana is only beaten into 2nd place by madonna as top female with 19.diana's is broken down as follows.
d.ross has had 17 top ten albums,6 with supremes,1 with supps and temptations,1 with marvin gaye.in all 38 top 40 albums,i havent got a breakdown for that.

i cant find out info of how many top 40 singles she had solo and duets and the supremes had altogether in all guises and with other groups ,temps and tops.
