Hi,

I used to post a lot about Thomas Beans Bowles who was like a Grandpa to me and tonight I am watching some old clips of him from Youtube. I think I have shared them before but I would like to again as this is the time of year when I think of him [[he died January 29, 2000). I used to tell all sorts of stories about him as he had even more stories he would tell me.

Anyway...

Thanks for posting this. He was such an integral part of those early recordings. He's was a "Funk Brother" in my book, regardless of the official NARAS list.

I met him in 1994. Nice man and very talented. He was very active on the Detroit Jazz scene.

I went to tour the Motown Recording Studio's shortly after it opened. A tall gentleman opened the door and introduced himself. He gave us a wonderful tour. We were the only 2 on it. He answered a lot of questions. I thought, boy, this guy knows his stuff. He even took us in to see Esther Gordy in her office. She gave me a calendar and some Motown pics. A lovely lady. It was a wonderful, private tour. At the time, I had no idea who Beans Bowles was.....he was the nicest man and very gracious. I'll always cherish that private tour with THE Mr. Beans Bowles. I think he said at the time he was appearing in a show at the Fox Theater. I have no idea what that would have been. Wonderful memories.
