A couple of shows to listen out for on BBC Radio 2 over Christmas.

Thursday 22nd Dec 8-10pm
Martha Reeves' Soul Christmas - Martha shares memories of her childhood and career, playing festive Motown songs and other tracks incl Otis, the Ronettes and Mahalia Jackson.

Christmas Day 10pm - midnight
They Wrote The Songs: Motown's Writers, with Ralph Johnson
'The stories behind popular Motown classics written by HDH, Ashford & Simpson and Smokey'

Martha's show was first rate - interesting stories and memories and some terrific music [[some I wouldn't have expected)....plus some Motown artiste greeetings for her. Highly recommended!

Thanks for the links to the show Alanh. Great music my favorite part was when Martha played her own music and Nat King Cole and after Mary Wilsons call Martha played the Supremes and then went on to praise Mr Gordy. Marthas Motowns greatest star and Motwons greatest ambbassador IMO.

In addition to all the great music and Motown stories I have to say that listening to Whitney singing 'Joy To The World' at the end, hearing her wonderful voice and range I was left thinking "Why?" What a loss of a great talent when she was at her peak.

That made me sad as well but hearing Mariah made me real happy and Marthas speaking and singing voice always makes me smile real wide with joy.
