That is fantastic

I think I know all of the singers,
and Jamison and Robert White.
Can you identify the 2 trumpet and 2 trombones from left to right?

You are welcome. I also notice that the studio looks very much the same today at Hitsville.

yes He was conducting the group:
I believe the 2nd trumpet from left to right is Marcus Belgrave

Great eyes Edafan. I do not know what Marcus looks like. I am amazed at how good they all sound being untrained singers. Just superb natural ability.

Yes. They showed Robert White and Joe Messina. The twangy intro was Robert White.

I've been looking up pics of the trumpet players.

I can't decide if the trumpet player 2nd from left is Marcus Belgrave or Maurice Davis.

Maybe some Motown musicians can help us

"My Girl" is quite possibly the best song ever recorded which makes that clip quite possibly the best video ever recorded.

You know, the thought of that song even being recorded blows my mind. I can't imagine a time when "My Girl" didn't exist, it's just perfect.

Thanks Marv!

You are welcome. What gets to me most about this video is that I was not far away from there the day they were recording. I thought about my parents . My Dad would have been at his job at GM my mother would have probably been doing laundry and making our dinner while these guys were making history!

I can honestly say that no one, including the Temptations realized at that time that they were in the process of making history.

Anyone notice how different David looks in the studio compared to how he looked during the performance clip from "Swingin' Time"?

Yes. He was still a "relatively down-to-Earth Kid" during that song's recording. By the time of that "Swingin' Time" taping, he was a star, and his head had already swelled some [[and I'm not talking about his longer hair).

LOL! I know that's right! If you look closely at the performance portion, you can tell he tried to do things to really stand out. David did have a huge ego.

His daughter Cheryl looks so much like him.

The recording studio segment of this video was staged for the 1966 television program THE ANATOMY OF POP: THE MUSIC EXPLOSION.

This is the same program in which the familiar clip of the Supremes doing MY WORLD IS EMPTY WITHOUT YOU in the studio was first shown.

I think the 2nd trombonist is Herbie Williams, who later worked with Jack Ashford's Pied Piper Productions.

I also noticed James Jamerson on base, Robert White and Joe Messina on guitar

If they'd kept up like that he would have got his David Ruffin and the Temptations

Why didn't that actually happen? After all, he did go solo eventually. Maybe because he didn't sing lead on all their songs? [[like Diana, Smokey and Martha) :)
