The delightful Eddie Kendricks recorded this uplifting Frank Wilson gem in 1972.

Check out his performance of it on Soul Train - and, more importantly, check out those clothes!! [[A beret and everything!) :)

It was originally recorded by Jimmy Ruffin under the title "If You Will Let Me [[I Know I Can)" in 1969 and also by The Four Tops for their Nature Planned It album, but I think - maybe, just maybe - Eddie's version is the best.

He sure was. He sounds different in this song - not so high-pitched?

Eddie Kendricks doesn't use his legendary falsetto voice as much on "If You Let Me". According to the notes for The Temptations "One By One": the best of their solo years, Eddie used his natural tenor more often during his solo career [[something he wasn't encouraged to do when he was with The Tempts).

Thank you Motown Eddie. It's weird hearing him sing like that [[even though it's actually natural) but it's equally brilliant!

You're welcome. Ever listen to the alternate take of The Tempts 1967 B-side "I Truly, Truly Believe" on TCMS-1967? Once again, you can hear Eddie K. in his natural voice on that track. And back to "If You Let Me", it's one of my favorites by Eddie [[alongside "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind", "Keep On Truckin" & "Eddie's Love").

Thanks guys, I'll check out all those tracks.

And, Motown Eddie, I love those songs as well. I also love "He's A Friend", a Motown-Philly-Disco extravaganza!!
