Arr&bee...

If I have this right:

Carl Gardner [[1928-2011)
Bobby Nunn [[1925-1986)
Billy Guy [[1936-2002)
Leon Hughes [[1929 - )
Adolph Jacobs [[1939-2014)

Leon Hughes is the last surviving member of the original Coasters lineup, currently aged 87 years.....

The great[1959]recording-poison ivy, great song and great harmonies, folks seem to overlook the fact that the coaster could sing with the best of em.

That one was used in 1994 as the flipside to 'Sorry, But I'm Gonna Have To Pass' - which was released after being used here in the UK for a Volkswagen commercial. Made # 41.....

Ahh...The Coasters, also known as the Clown Princes of Rock & Roll...Many terrific tunes...My favorite...Along Came Jones...a Leiber & Stoller tune, recorded and released in 1959 on the ATCO label. While the Coasters sang quite well...my favorite part of their recordings were the patented King Curtis tenor sax riffs throughout the songs... https://youtu.be/H67VNQ2_xfk

Ralph,

One of the greatest attractions of this forum is the ongoing recommendation of old recordings.

No, I'd never heard 'Shoppin' For Clothes'..but have just searched and played it

At 3 minutes, was that long for those times?

Those Coasters seem like real characters......

My oldest brother was a big Coasters fan and had all their 45s. "Yakety Yak" came out when I was around eight and the song really caught my attention. I still consider it a defining song in Rock and Roll music. Our baby brother was learning to talk at the time so we had a lot of "yakey yakey" for quite a while.:)

I did a TV show with them while with The Sunliners. One of the guys, I can't remember which one, asked me if wanted to go golfing with him. I had to pass because of having to move band equipment. It would have been a gas to golf with the guy even though I didn't golf. Maybe I could have carried his golf bag.

arr&bee,
he said " why sure come on in, check these clothes we've got on the shelves", he said " pick one out, stand in the mirror and dig yourself"............................

This isn't quite right, arr&bee. Too many years. I used to have this one down cold.
