I’ve always read that Brenda Holloway originally recorded “Every Little Bit Hurts” in 1962 for the Del-Fi label. The following link takes you to that recording on YouTube where some of the comments say that the recording was actually a demo by Frank Wilson’s wife, Barbara. Can anyone clarify? Also is the Tamla version of the song using the same, original track with strings added? Thanks.

Brenda learnt the song from a demo by Barbara Wilson.

Another quite interesting fact about Brenda's recording is that only a mixed mono version of it has survived - there's no multi-track in the Vaults, probably because it was mixed on the Coast and the original tape was never sent to Detroit. This means that we will never now hear the track in proper stereo - stereo versions that have appeared are all "stereo enhanced mono".

That is not Brenda Holloway's version, there is no organ playing on Brenda's version. I downloaded the version by Barbara Wilson from the boxset One Kiss Led To Another Girl Group Sounds Lost & Found, although its credited to Brenda. I'm also pretty sure it wasn't recorded in '62.

That's because Barbara Wilson didn't have Brenda's range.

I'm confused. So is this Barbara Wilson singing?

Bunny recorded it first? I never knew.

Brenda's version was the bomb! It should have won her a Grammy.

Very true. Alicia Keyes also performs it

Well that solves a years-long mystery. I wasn't sure who that was singing on the '62 version...
