Listed in the British Hit Singles and Albums is the Bobby Womack album 'The Poet II' and single 'Tell Me Why' charting at 31and 60 respectively in 1984. I wasn't aware that both were released on the Motown label. Was this just for distribution purposes in the UK or were they recorded ar Motown?

I don't think there was any Motown connection, other than the distribution deal in some foreign markets. In America, they were released on the Beverly Glen label.

Licensed for European release from Beverly Glen Records I seem to recall.

The Poet was first issued in the UK on Motown STML-12168 and reissued on Motown ZL-72045 when RCA took over the distribution. The Poet II was issued in 1984 on Motown ZL-72205.

Thanks for that, just ordered both albums on 1 CD. Recently purchased his 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' album and really enjoyed it. Great reviews for both 'Poets ' albums

That is exactly what happened. Two totally classic albums by a sadly missed legend.

Nearly all Womack's albums are worth purchasing but HIWTHI is a particular personal favourite of mine. Most of his 60's albums were issued on 2 on 1 cd around 12-15 years ago and his mca albums in the 80's are also worth checking out especially "womagic".
