This is a major loss. His profiles and commentary about jazz on CBS' Sunday Morning were some of the best music journalism on television.

I just heard the news 15 mins ago on the CBC. Great musician and a great human being has gone on. RIP Billy Taylor and thanks man.

Dr. Taylor, as quoted in the NY Daily News, was one of the most honored jazz musicians in history. I had the pleasure of attending a couple of his jazz symposiums in NYC. The Jazz Mobiles he brought to the community was priceless. He was quite the historian and will truly be missed. This is turning out to be quite a tough year end.

Billy Taylor was deeply disappointed for many years by the neglect of Jazz by the majority of the African American
community. I shared the good Doctor's sentiment...
