I was wondering if anybody in Detroit would be interested in my show...I was thinking of writing to the Free Press..........there must be some old timers who would love to hear some tunes from the 60s.....not the big 'oldies' but forgotten/underplayed/unheard stuff?

They do a "Sixties at Six" show every weekday. They do birthday tributes for just about any and everyone that recorded for Motown at noon on their birthdate.

Or is it just UK "Northern Soul" collectors who remember these singers/groups.

Hi Snakepit; you may want to try WDET in Detroit, as they have specialized music programs on their rotation. Or perhaps WEMU, who used to have a special program if I remember correctly 'All Star Review' where they would play 3 Doo Wop songs followed by some 60's soul songs with artists that you mention. The other stations are too commercial to even consider a program; you almost NEVER hear Lee Rogers, Emanuel Lasky or anyone similar on Detroit radio, heck, you rarely hear Jimmy Ruffin, Kim Weston or the Fantastic Four!

That's interesting information. I might contact the Free press to inform them of my show, and if there are any folks who would like to hear this stuff then it might be for them.

I'd love to have listeners in Detroit who would get the chance to hear old artists.....and records they MIGHT not even know about.

There would be interest in markets like New York City and amongst the "oldtimers" in places like Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and even some large cities in Florida. A syndicated Sunday afternoon program would potentially work. In NYC, Sundays is the day for oldies music on some popular stations in and around the city.

I remember Leon "the Lover" Isaac Kennedy. I also remember and enjoyed his film "Penitentiary" in 80s.

Hi Marv...when I uploaded that clip and shared the link on soulsource I was told by someone on there that he is actually miming over the vocals of Joe Matthews? I'll copy and paste what he said
'Check it out. The promo copy of 'stand by me' is a double 'A' side. That is an odd and first-time for an early 1967 MGM single. Spyder's 'stand by me' take was submitted as a demo tape to MGM and they decided to issue it right away. And since it was a 'one' song demo thing, it could only be issued as a double 'A' side 45. The air-play reaction was immediate and the commercial/stock release had to be issued in a rush to meet the public demand while it was still "hot". So they manage through Clay McMurray [[then Spyder Turner manager) who was a corner-stone in all that small Detroit business and music industry to get unreleased material from Thelma records collection. And so it was "intentionally" released as the 'B' side with a fake/cover-up singer name. Listen close it's all Thelma and Matthews... Funny and great stuffs.'

One of the things I like about the net is learning something new :)
