It's narcotics, man! Stay away from them! They cut that stuff with so much garbage that it destroys your liver and kidneys. Even if it's pure, it ruins your heart and screws up your nervous system.

Very sad but her faith was strong.

Another needless death. I wasn't a fan but it is so sad that she has left us at a relatively early age. Those drugs don't half screw you up. How may more premature deaths before the message hits home?

What's sad is that she not only had to raise the money to fight her kidney disease, but that she only raised $6,000 out of the $50,000 she needed. Where were her celebrity "friends" when she needed them? At least she managed to clean herself up before she died...

Vanity or Denise Matthews had been a Christian Evangelist for over 20 years now.

40 years ago next week, I asked the same question upon the announcement of the death of Florence Ballard.

Wow, I almost forgot that was coming up...

It's a real shame, you know? I've seen people set up crowdsourcing pages for things as trite as a vacation, and they'll get the funds. But someone fighting for her life can barely raise 10% of what she needs? Something's rotten in the state of Denmark...

I didn't know she had a page, I would have definitely donated. If it had been widely publicized she would have met her goal in a matter of days. Colonel Abrams exceeded his ask and "Vanity" had a much higher celebrity profile.

I think Denise Matthews was so done with "Vanity" she would never have invoked that name to get donations. It was her plan that only those who knew her as Evangelist Denise should be in her circle of donors.

Well, one kind of wonders if Prince even knew about her condition. Never assume he knew.

I have to believe he or others [[Berry Gordy) did not know.

If it's reissued I hope they include a DVD with videos/performances. You really have to get the visual to truly appreciate "Vanity."

Berry Gordy, who served as executive producer for “The Last Dragon,” called Matthews “a talented natural beauty, inside and out.”

“I just cannot believe Vanity is gone,” Gordy said. “She was such a vibrant human being.”
