Well, blueskies, while The Ronettes were still under contract with Phil Spector and Philles Records, Phil supposedly produced a version of The Chiffons' "Love Me Like You're Gonna Lose Me" on The Ronettes. Although I've always loved The Chiffons' version, I can easily imagine Ronnie's lead vocals on it. And, because Phil's production would be even more powerful, ya just KNOW that that recording would be a match made in heaven! I'm living for the day it gets a legitimate CD release. Also, Darlene Love's version of LaLa's "Da Doo Ron Ron".

This is an interesting thread. I've always been disappointed when hearing a great song which would have been fantastic sung by a much better singer, or a singer who is a much better fit for its style, or sung by a singer in a production that is a better fit, as done by a production team that specialised in that style.

For example, their were super Goffin-King songs that didn't get sung by The Cookies or Freddie Scott and not arranged by Gary Sherman, super Bachrach-David songs not sung by Dionne Warwick or Lou Johnson and not arranged by Bachrach, super Curtis Mayfield or Carl Davis crew songs not sung by the best matched artist. or the best "Motown-style" song not sung by the best fitting artist, or sung and instrumentalised in rge wrong music genre.

One great example is Goffin-King's "I Can't Stay Mad At You", recorded by C&W singer, Skeeter Davis. It was a perfect song for The Cookies with the type of instrumentals they had on Dimension, or, as The Honeybees on Fontana Records.

Another good example is "California Soul" with the stupendous instrumental by The Funk Brothers, used for backing the Messengers [[Pop group), and NOT used on the Soul Versions. I would have liked to hear someone like Tammi Terrell sing over that backing track.
