The benefits of having everything available in full sound at a click are many! Everything is still archived and I enjoy my collection just the same. :)

That is all too true. Much as I love Jerry I am not sure I would buy a new album by him. Can he still sing?
I tend to content myself with reissues these days with just the occasional new artist who happens to catch my ears.

I've seen Jerry a few times over the past decade and he sounded good to me. But still, I probably wouldn't buy a new cd of his unless he was selling it at his show and I wanted it signed.

Often I've bought a new cd by an older artist, played it once, didn't think it was so hot, and then went back to their oldies.

But, years ago, I bought Wilson Pickett's last album when it was released on Bullseye Records and was surprised that not only was it excellent, but his voice was the same! But, I don't doubt for one minute that relatively few people bought it, even after his death.

I think the sad thing is for our classic artist is maybe thier caught in the middle musically,how to sound hip enough for today's audience but yet have enough of the classic sound for the oldtimers.

It's the same as how Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and the Andrew Sisters etc. sounded to us - OLD!

At a Christmas Party this year, I was told that some young people can identify music from the 60's because it sounds OLD!

What I think is a shame is that there were a certain tier of artists out there that didn't have lots of hits but had a few or maybe wrote a few and there was a time when they had a little retirement income out of it ~ and after the 90's, the income went kaput. And if they want any income at all now, they have to join an oldies tour and sings their hit or their 3 songs or find little gigs at any old place in the country.

R Dean Taylor was on here for a while and said the money he got out of Love Child as a writer and producer got divided up so many times that it didn't mean much. But if you could put that together a few times, it at least gave a person a few dollars.

I don't want them to update their sound for the younger generation. The music always suffers when they do. All they need to do is do what made them great. If the music is good, the younger generation may come. Same thing with remixes. The revised music just doesn't last.

Their voice sounds great, maybe, but they always try to update the music. I don't like that.

The thing I like about Wilson Pickett's last album was that it was played by a real band.
