This 1979 ballad by The Rance Allen Group has got to be one of the most spectacular ballads ever. It doesn't get the credit that it deserves & I must admit that I hadn't heard this song until the late '80s. The lyrics of this live version has been altered to take away any misconceptions about what his original message was. Regardless, it's just nice to see this live clip.

If you've never heard this song, in order to get the full impact of just how dynamic this song is, do yourself a favor & find a copy of the original song, because it is BAD!!!

Although he's a Gospel singer, Rance Allen is truly one of the most underrated voices in Soul music history.

Juice, Rance Allen is an amazing vocalist. I've seen him live at the Apollo and the audience didn't know what hit them. I also agree that he is underrated, but I love that brother!

NYSister, Rance is definitely one of the greatest vocalists that the world just doesn't know about.

TOTALLY underrated & the original version of this song shows him to have a very versatile vocal instrument.

I believe that Rance along with Theo Peoples, David Sea & Lonnie Youngblood, are amongst the most underappreciated & unsung voices in Soul music history.

They should be stars!

I've been waiting for Ronnie Mac to rest and recoup from being on the road so I can check my facts Juice but, while I'm waiting and if I'm not mistaken, Rance Allen and Ronnie collaborated on a project that garnered them a Grammy nomination for best producers of a Gospel album. I believe it was for this album.http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h74/mmandmusic/RanceAllenGroup.jpg

It often amazes me how many, unsung hero, Detroit musicians there are out here.

Good find.

Ms M:

You are more than correct about that. Ronnie was indeed a part of that LP. Ronnie's a hell of an instrumentalist, the man can play & deserves more credit & attrention than he receives.

One of the many pros about the new SDF is being able to place clips directly in your post. I love it and thanks again Coz for posting these...of course I happen to think Ronnie McNeir is da MAN...but hey I'm prejudice and his talent helps pay my bills....LOL

Back to Rance Allen though, the dude is awesome, I'm glad Juice featured him. I don't remember his name coming up before on the forum.

I've been following Rance since the early 70s. Didn't think he would be of interest to this forum. Wow!

i think we mentioned Rance Allen before, but certainly not enough. I like the stuff they did as The Rance Allen Group very much.
The Rance Allen Group_He Will See Us Trough, Make My Life Shine, See What You Have Done, Up Above My Head are fantastic.

Yes we have discussed them before. One of the earliest times that I remember the group was here at Wattstax, the first recording I ever bought by the group was "Aint No Need In Crying".....

Rance Allen is one of my all time favorite Gospel Singers. "Ain't No Need In Crying" is one of my all time favorites by Rance. He use to perform it for us at my high school and everyone loved it!
